I havent looked very hard, but if it doesnt say otherwise I'm going to guess this is a condensing dehumidifier. These are apparently a bit cheaper to run than Desiccant ones, but much noisier.

A condensing dehumidifier sounds like an air con unit - because it basically is one - a desiccant unit sounds like a fan.

I have one of each, but the desiccant is far more effective indoors (condensing units remain effective at lower temperatures - eg, if you have a garage with a classic car - one day )

This honestly depends on the climate and the temperature in your home. I also have both, two compressor/condensing units and one desiccant machine. Desiccant, while much quiter - as you said - blows out warm air, making the temperature higher in the room. This makes it unusable for summer use for me, as staying cool in the summer is paramount.

In the cooler weather, dessicant is the way to go. It will provide mild heating as well as quietly dehumidifying your room. Condensing dehumidifiers on the other hand are not as suitable to colder environments, as the coils can easily freeze. The machine will go into defrost mode to sort this, but it still isn't ideal in the winter months.

For anyone considering this: I use mine to dehumidify a problem room in my flat at night during the winter. It's about 130w so this unit will run at 365w full power. Ideal for dehumidifying a large space and it will probably even dry clothes much cheaper than a condensing type tumble dryer (if you dry it all in a small room). Worth considering if you have a regular mould problem or want a cheaper option to drying clothes during winter. I use my smaller unit for both purposes.

This doesn't need any external pipe does it ? Just "plug and play"

Correct. but if you think it has to run even over flowing, you could use the pipe.

Probably a stupid question, but if we have condensation and mould problems in every room, would we need to have one of these in every room? Or could it go on the landing say, and have the doors to the bedrooms open?

Sometimes these are a short term solution to damp, are you drying clothes on radiators in every room ? Could be an insulation problem, try to get some humidity sensors to check the humidity throughout the day

but nowhere even on own website does it mention energy usage? I nearly bought it direct with the £10 off but not sure now

You can download a manual from the b&q website. In the manual it states a power consumption of 365w (edited)
