Having set one of these up with home assistant several months ago I can wholeheartedly recommend it for its local recording and privacy.

Can you advise on what capabilities there are for rich notifications?

I have Home Assistant but haven't really used it for much yet.

From what I've read if you want a notification when someone rings the doorbell you need the WiFi version and it might also be tied to a subscription. I don't want either of those things so my plan would be to get the PoE version and hook it up to Home Assistant.

Have you done anything more than simply using it as a CCTV camera for local recording?

Of all the places you're likely to have ethernet cabling in a home I would think the front door is the least likely. (edited)

That's why you buy some cat 6, some termination jacks, a PoE switch and do it yourself.

Probably a lot trickier in a modern house but I've got 6 cameras on the outside of my house. Pulled up a few floorboards, found a few gaps and managed to find a way from my switch to the outside world on either side of the house. It's some effort but well worth it in the long run especially since PoE is a standard. If you don't like a camera or it breaks, replace it and re-use the same cable. Much better solution than battery powered surveillance, and the only option if you wish to record 24/7.

Great price, works locally without subscription cost. Hooks up to home assistant painlessly. Obviously not affected by WiFi jammers if used to enhance security

If there's one thing I've learnt from trying to set up home assistant for last 2 weeks, is that nothing is painless in home assistant

Did I read that the WiFi version can also handle an ethernet cable and also has some kind of extra settings which makes it better?
    RhysyPoos's avatar
Having done a quick Google, the WiFi version also supports ethernet, but not PoE, so you'll need to run an additional cable for power. Seems a strange decision to make. I couldn't find any mention of extra settings.

Thieves all ways ring the door bell 1st
    ChrisRX's avatar
But thieves may approach the door on their way around the house, or someone may approach the house while you're out

Has anyone who owns this been able to get notifications to their phone when someone rings the bell? We can only get notifications when it picks up movement but it seems weird that it wouldn't have it for a doorbell press too

I have the WiFi version and it it works fine on doorbell ring, maybe check your notification settings.

I have an ethernet cable in just about the right place, but it is fairly long. Does this come with a poe injector? If so, how long can the final cable (carrying power and ethernet) be?
    kscoombs's avatar
Can confirm it doesn't come with a poe injector. My Poe cable from my switch in the loft is around 25m iirc.

quite a big lag from pressing the doorbell to answering.
    robocop999's avatar
    How long is 'big?

A lot of these doorbells experience lag.

I've got the ring 3 and it can sometimes be about 20 seconds

I've had the eufy, which can be about 30 seconds.

I think it sometimes depends on level of charge and distance to router.

Mine works great with Scrypted (ONVIF plugin) and HomeKit. Remember to update the firmware version.

any way to have multiple chimes?
    kscoombs's avatar
For the moment it seems not, I tried a 3rd party 433mhz chime that on paper should have worked but didn't. Google, Amazon and Apple speaker/displays can be used but Google in particular has a huge delay.

Interesting, this looks just like the sort of thing I need, having the capability of a smart doorbell without the privacy issues.

That's a great price, I paid a lot more when these were a bit scarce earlier this year.

Is there any other poe doorbells about?

Looking forward to receiving this as my Ring doorbell is so crap - biggest issue is the delay from button press to receiving notifications....plus this being ONVIF is a big bonus.

    Thanks OP
