Help with iPhone please

Hello,

Looking for some help and Google hasn't been very helpful. It might be I haven't asked the question correctly but all different searches have not found the solution.

I am an android user so IOS issues do cause me a headache. My wife has just upgraded her iPhone 8 to the new iPhone 15. She transfered the old phone via IOS phone swapping feature and it went smoothly.

She has mentioned to me that within WhatsApp all received photos arrive blurry and slowly download. She can send photos OK, but receiving photos and videos are extremely laggy and slow to get a standard photo. Sent a test photo this morning and it took over 40 minutes for the photo to be proper visable within WhatsApp.

I have completed a speed test and there is no issues and also preformed the classic turn off and on again (no improvement).

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I'd be tempted to uninstall/reinstall WhatsApp, obviously do a chat backup first then see if that helps.

Has she tried turning the phone off and then then back on, sometimes they just like to be rebooted might help might not but worth a go

Does it happen on Wi-Fi or only on mobile data?

I also think it could be a temporary issue if she has lots and lots of photos on iCloud and it’s still syncing or something  (edited)

Sounds strange. Has she got a low data settings enabled?

It's on WiFi. We are currently outside of the uk and she had the phone for about a week before we came/went on holiday. Mobile data is switched off.

Thank you for responses. Had a little tinker and still have issues.

The blurry bit is probably because WhatsApp is actually not downloading and just putting in a placeholder. Check if you have disabled media download in WhatsApp settings - you can fully disable or allow only on wifi or disable only when roaming. Usually, clicking the blurry image again triggers a full manual download.
