S20 Fe upgrade.

Morning all.

I'm due an upgrade next week, and wondered what the opinions are on upgrade options? I'm not the most techy, but I do enjoy a decent phone.

However, from what I'm reading, there doesn't seem to have been as many changes worthy of an upgrade from my s20 fe - Would an s22 ultra be worth it? - currently only pay £30p/m for unlimited everything on EE, so wondering whether prices may drop to around this on the s22 ultra once the s23 releases in Feb?

And does anyone know, when will security updates end to my current phone, as it's almost 3 years old going by release dates.

Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

Yes an s22 ultra will be slightly better than your S20 FE. But nothing spectacular. The S20 FE is still a very good phone. Alternatively you could just get a £10/month SIM only contract?

If you’re happy with your current phone stick with it. You’re still going to be supported with security updates (though maybe no more feature updates) for some time to come yet. I think it’s 5 years from release.

Negotiate with EE a cheaper SIM only plan to save money, or move to another network to save even more. If you don’t actually need unlimited data then there’s more savings to be had.

Given EE’s pricing structure and reputation for being the most expensive network there is, you’re actually on a really good deal for your current phone. You’d have to negotiate and get lucky to get anywhere near that price on the S22 Ultra especially on that network.

Best you can do right now is S22 Ultra with ID Mobile unlimited data for £34.99/Month and £50 upfront. That itself is a special deal price and I would only expect other networks to come close to this even after the S23 release - Don’t expect it to fall further anytime soon, especially with EE.

Cheapest unlimited SIM is £16 with Smarty (owned by Three) and has no contract, no inflation based price increases, and you get free 5G, EU Roaming, WiFi Calling and such.

    Thank you.

Appreciate I won't get near that deal - the one I'm on was a recommendation on here, and then someone else on here recommended using a FandF code on ee's online chat, and it brought it down to £26 p/m. With rpi increases it's steadily jumped.

I think I will take your advice and look elsewhere - as I only use 4gb data p/m as usually just on WiFi. Reassured with security updates too, and that was the clincher for me.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year 🙏🏻

I've also got a S20FE, looking to upgrade this year. I'm in 2 minds, whether to go for the S21FE which has OS updates until Android 16 (currently on 13), or see what offers are around for the S23, might get a decent trade in at the time. I'm not on a contract so will probably see what's around in a couple of weeks.
