Introducing Gemini Advanced

Bard has been the best way for people to directly experience our most capable models. To reflect the advanced tech at its core, Bard will now simply be called Gemini. It’s available in 40 languages on the web, and is coming to a new Gemini app on Android and on the Google app on iOS.

The version with Ultra will be called Gemini Advanced, a new experience far more capable at reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration. For example, it can be a personal tutor, tailored to your learning style. Or it can be a creative partner, helping you plan a content strategy or build a business plan. You can read more in this post.

You can start using Gemini Advanced by subscribing to the new Google One AI Premium plan, which offers the best of Google’s AI features in a single place. This premium plan builds off the popular Google One service offering expanded storage and exclusive product features.

Lazy question, how does this compare to ChatGPT?

I tried both, the GPT 4 and Gemini Ultra. They are pretty much at par. The Gemini sometimes refuses to answer. The android app for Gemini is not available in the UK yet. Also, image creation capability of Gemini is still not released

I still don't understand how Gemini A.I benefits the average phone user - the only example Google can ever give as to what A.I is good for, is for writing out lines of coding.

All I can see it really being good for is more detailed answers/responses than regular Google assistant as well as being able to attach a photo of something like a broken door handle and asking "how do I fix this" and it understands what you want - effectively replacing internet forums or places like Reddit when looking for advice.

They're making it seem like a much bigger deal than it really all is. (edited)

I'm a software engineer and I use it to do annoying things, like regular expressions or anything I don't use often.
I also use it for learning, e.g. in azure explain this to me, or generate a conversation I'm french using only the 100 most common words.
At the end of the day it's limited only by your imagination

I currently pay for Google One for cloud storage, signing up to this trial saves me the cost for 2 months so for exsisting users of Google One like me its a no brainer as you get "Advanced" AI search thrown in. (edited)

Annoyingly it converts my refunded 8 months credit into 15 days on the new upgraded plan

Reviews are in, looks like Gemini Pro is rubbish and Google have massively oversold it.
    JoShmo's avatar
Well it's free for 2 months for you to find out yourself.
    Should you wish to.
  5. herby247's avatar
Option to cancel immediately and still get the 2 free months is there.

the gemini is just a rename of bard. Used several times and it's crap compared to chatgpt
    DucksCourage's avatar
It's also been updated with a new model. It's much, much better than when it first released.

Imo it's still not at good at GPT4, but it is better for online research because it has a really good double check feature

I'm already on the 2tb plan but it won't let me upgrade to this. Anyone having the same?
    abeuk's avatar
Just realised you have to switch to monthly!
  8. Zikohh's avatar
Fyi you can subscribe and cancel immediately

How long until Gemini is killed off? Like how useless Google assistant has been for the last year (and more). It was silently killed a long time ago.
    ChildofChaos's avatar
They are not going to kill it off, I know Google has a big history with that, I am still sad about the lost of Stadia, it might go through a lot of rebranding and new versions but it won't be killed off.

Why? This kinda thing is the future. It will kill and end internet search as we know it eventually, if Google are not in this area their core business is over. It's different this time, this is an existential threat for Google, not just a new product area they will get in and then abandon.

If Google don't have something in this area, in ten years or less, Google doesn't exist. (edited)

Is this just me doing something? I am unable to generate images with this. But when I check on YouTube, I can see people generating images with them.

Have to be in the US. When I use VPN I can do it.52214151-9BLWB.jpg

App now working in the UK for me
    hotdealsuk1973's avatar
yes it does thanks for the post

i would assume they thought it daft to have the gemini app not available when the new tariff had been launched

Data scientist here. Having played with main ChatGPT 4 esp coding, writing extended documents and analysis vs this Gemini.
ChatGPT 4 upgraded costs same and is better; you can even access this llm via Bing and related sites. Long way to go for Gemini; actually disappointed!
    s10's avatar
Though, for many people, this is only £10pm as they already pay for the 2tb.

Also this is shared with your Google family group.
  14. Richard_Mathews's avatar
Been testing and works well for summarising YouTube video and getting Google maps and also for summarise PDF held on my Google Drive.
  15. DigzDeals's avatar
Warning for anyone with a annual Google One plan. Do not apply the trial unless you are happy for it to pro-rata your remaining time at the £20 a month rate and you will not get it back even if cancel.

Monthly plans probably okay, but lots of people are losing 6+ months of their plan when converts it.
  16. ma10's avatar
so... it's normally 7.99 for 2tb and after the trial you pay an extra 11 quid a month just for the extra Gemini features?
    BorisBargain's avatar
    Yes.

Google gemini android app says not available in your country....
    What am I missing here?

Are you paying for cheap Google storage or cheap YouTube?
  19. Richard_Mathews's avatar
If it’s on par with gpt4 then for 11 quid on top of the 7.99 I’m paying for 2TB of storage looks like a good deal.
    takkischitt's avatar
Is ChatGPT not free to use though?
  20. Frugalstudent's avatar
Cheers, worth testing out for free
  21. smicer07's avatar
    Got two months free thanks.
  22. Chiptivo's avatar
Just a heads up.. This is back on. So unexpire.
  23. warrior05's avatar
Do we know when this expires?
  24. Glockage's avatar
I still think chatgpt is better as they have the GPTs options to do more specific stuff. I'm going to take a leap and try gemini. Saw the 2 months free few days ago on announce but got side tracked.
  25. Zikohh's avatar
this is not US only. The app is US only. Not the offer. I.e you can use the browser on any device. Link is here. one.google.com/abo…=en

Anyone use the family sharing with Google One? Seems like the Gemini Advanced doesn't actually share between family members.

Waste of time for me! (edited)
    Richard_Mathews's avatar
    Doesn't share
