Sky Q gone?

Moving home and thinking to cancel and start a new customer deal instead of moving over.

seems new customers have to have Sky Stream (or glass with tv) and no option for Q!

Have Sky made Q totally unavailable now? The cloud recording thing on stream seems worse than recording locally on Q hard drive.

Well let's hope Sky Stream is better by 2026 than it is reported to be now.

Guess that means all the Sky Q boxes will just end up as a massive pile of landfill.

I hate streaming, far less convenient than Sky Q - will be a sad day when they FORCE us to switch over

It's still available. Just no longer advertised and hidden away from the main homepage and headline deals.

At some point in the not too distant future, it will stop being available to new customers, and they will gradually phase out their satellite TV offering. There's not an exact confirmed timeline, but there's speculation that it will close to new customers within about a year, and probably being phased out for the most part by the end of this decade.

TV Isn't likely to stick around for too much longer in the way that we know it right now. Over the air broadcasts are going away in favour of streaming it. Local recording is being replaced with streaming via catch-up apps... This isn't just a Sky thing, but a more general shift from most organisations involved in this industry.

Sky engineer told me some years ago that sky is going to stop using satellite dish and use internet stream, so yeah, the day of the horrible ugly dish is coming, and not too soon in my opinion.

Hard lines if you're stuck with a potato internet connection and Sky eventually pull the plug on Satellite broadcasting.

I'm a dinosaur who still prefers local recording and series linking because I can skip the adverts so I've still got my recordable freesat box - for now.

I could certainly see me watching less TV if I didn't have the option to series link and skip adverts.

The option to skip adverts will be standard by then - at a cost of course lol

Just been through the end of contract talks with Sky.

Stream was £53 a month for 2 boxes, ultra HD, netflix, sports and Entertainement

Sky Q was 90 for same package. We have stuck with Q.

The user experience is just so much better on Q. Stream doesn't feel like a mature product.

I can still see sky q on sky website, so it is still there. It isn't hidden.

How can I record off Sky Stream with a hard drive then?

You don't. You have to use catchup.

Out of interest. If you put up a dish at the new house (maybe with the same LNB) how are they going to know?

Unless you have broadband with them?

Thanks all. Spoke to Sky and i can just take my sky Q box over and they’ll send an engineer to hook it up.

Sky Q is indeed a little hidden away for new customers and more expensive than 1) before 2) deal i’m on currently 3) stream

Stream is great in that no dish is required but the recording is inferior as cloud based so lose control over content and ad skipping. Can’t record news/music channels or international/third party channels. If bbc/itv programs then you are directed to iplayer/itvhub which is kind of annoying but In time all that may improve. Please don't delude yourself. These things won't improve

Rather randomly, I've just found an old Sky Q box in the cupboard that Sky clearly forgot to come and collect
