All Certified Refurbished Steam Decks include:

  • The same one year warranty as a new Steam Deck (unless longer as determined by your country of residence)
  • A refurbished power supply - fully tested (may have minor cosmetic marks)
  • Carrying case and Quick Start guide

All Steam Decks (both LCD and OLED) are powerful, portable, PC gaming devices made for comfort and a console-like experience.

Portability meets power
We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.

Your Steam Library, anywhere
Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.

Control with comfort
The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

Console-like experience
Steam Deck has a user-friendly interface specifically designed for its gamepad controls. Its software and operating system are tailored for Steam Deck, making it the easiest way to get into PC gaming.

Steam Deck Certified Refurbished FAQ

What’s the difference between a certified refurbished unit and a new unit?
Certified Refurbished units are returned customer units that have been thoroughly cleaned and tested following the same testing process used for new units. There are no differences in technical or functional specifications between refurbished and new units, but there may be minor cosmetic defects.

Is there a warranty?
Yes. The same warranty you receive with a new unit is provided with each Certified Refurbished unit. If you have an issue with your unit and that issue cannot be resolved it will be replaced with another Certified Refurbished unit.

What are “minor cosmetic defects”?
We consider minor cosmetic defects to be small blemishes or scratches (on the plastic casing, not the screen) generally caused from normal handling of the unit.

How does support work for these units?
As a customer with a Certified Refurbished unit, you will receive the exact same customer support experience through our support teams as you would with a new unit.

I have to question why there are such a high quantity of these refurbs on a regular basis? Reliability issues? Buyers remorse returns? Overstock returns from stores?
    WhichWord's avatar
From what I have seen, on the forums, the returns tend to be by whiny teenagers who have unrealistic expectations.

The slightest irregularity and they RMA.
Some of them several times in a row…
One teen returned his deck 4 times in a row, each time finding some tiny flaw to return it.
His excuses were such things as a click sound when pressing a button for instance.

So the vast majority of returns are just for no reason at all.

    The problem lies with Valve.
    They are too nice.
If you ever have a problem with your deck, you can just contact Valve support and they will move mountains to make sure everything is ok, because they value their reputation so much, and they also give you Gabes email too, so if they can’t fix it, you can contact the billionaire boss directly, and see what he says…

You’d think I would be making it up, but it does actually happen.
    Gabe reads all his emails..

10 out 10 customer service years after your purchase is rare nowadays. So Icouldn't recommend them any more. A deck is worth a lot more than what they are selling them for too.

Is it worth getting a OLED one
    WhichWord's avatar
The LCD screen is much shaper.
The OLED screen has better colours.

Its horses for courses at this point…

I will say though, as I am on the steam deck forums every day, there are far more problems with the OLED version than there is the LCD version.
  3. Jack_Ch_'s avatar
Quick question, who does Steam usually use to deliver their Decks? Hoping it’s DPD as they’re the only ones I never have issues with around here
    WhichWord's avatar
    Royal Mail tracked delivery.
3 days to deliver to your door from purchase date.

    Very fast, and very reliable.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun posted a really useful Steamdeck guide today. Worth a read for SD newbies or those thinking of buying.

Do windows function as it should if installed on the steam deck? Heard there are compatibility issues and doesn't run as smooth compared to a Windows handheld. Appreciate the advice.
    Krish_K's avatar
No it doesn’t function correctly. There are plenty of YouTube videos advising why not to put windows, it just isn’t there yet. You can go for ROG Ally instead.

Whats the best option get this and upgrade memory or just go for karger memory or wait for 64gb and upgrade. Not sure how much it cost to upgrade memory that's why im asking. Thanks
    nbgrobbo's avatar
I’ve just got a 64GB and stuck a fast micro sd card in it, works fine
  7. Robloxian's avatar
Does it normally have marks and signs of use?

I have an old PC for gaming, the graphics card died recently so wondering if one of these might fill the gap. I have Steam PC games, suppose I just need to check which ones would work on this? Usually play Borderlands and Far Cry.
    Alex_H's avatar
The deck will automatically tell you which games are fully compatible and which might work. There is a website that can tell you too: steamdeck.com/en/…ied
  9. noahsdad's avatar
Loads and loads of 'refurbished' (realistically used) Steam Decks on marketplace now it has found it's true place as a rushed to market, limited offering. Now established as nothing more than a budget option or legacy user console. It has been superseded by better competition and the future is something else, the past is the Steam Deck. Glad I wasn't am early adopter of one who jumped on the crest of the wave.
    idbsjk's avatar
More likely there's "loads and loads" because they've sold millions, with a 0.x% return rate they'd still have tens of thousands to refurb.

I never get why people try to bag on the deck and steams efforts, perhaps they just weren't invested in the handheld landscape before?

They've pushed the PC handheld market to the mainstream, it's gone from GPD and Aya releasing niche handhelds to Asus and Lenovo buying in.

They forced a solid price point by likely making a loss, no longer does £500 get you mediocre hardware and £1k for competitive.

They've pushed Linux gaming further than any other company with tech like proton, vulkan and steamOS. It gives gamers options, Microsoft no longer has a stranglehold on PC gaming despite their best efforts manufacturers can offer a viable £0 OS on their gaming devices. Additionally steamOS gives an easy no hassle entry point for console/non technical gamers.

Sure have a preference on a handheld, more options are great! But you have to recognise they largely exist and are priced the way they are due to Valve and that was one of their goals when creating the deck. (edited)

Been eyeing up the OLED version for £479, but surely the £279 version is the one to get? I know the battery life and screen are better (and its actually new), but that's surely not worth an extra £200!?
    Jack_Ch_'s avatar
Was in the same boat, but I couldn’t say no to this at less than £279… that way even if I don’t end up using it as much as I hope too, it hasn’t felt like a wasted purchase… I has £12 in my steam wallet too so even better ha!

Bought one - too good a price to pass up. Anyone know a good emulator for Dreamcast/N64 games?
    Sobski's avatar
Haven't tried on Steam Deck but ReDream is by far the best Dreamcast emulator imo.
  13. MrFlux001's avatar
Just sent mine back as the trackpads stopped working entirely after a few weeks, barely even used the thing 💀 Good price though. (edited)
  14. darknesskai's avatar
Bought a refurbed one last time. Only difference is the box it comes in.
Mine was mint so well worth going for.
  15. Maćkowy's avatar
Does it matter which version I buy if I'm planning to upgrade storage anyway? 64 or 256?
    abaxas's avatar
    Not at all.

Personally, I'd buy a 256 and get a 512 sd card. That way you get the best of all worlds for the cheapest price.

Most games run fine from SD card but some (not many) are better from internal storage.
  16. telboy69's avatar
    It's a great machine,
But what let's it down is the screen, when you look at the oled one(at a price though) you will never buy this.
    abaxas's avatar
    What a load of ballcocks,

Screen aint the best but this is £200 cheaper.

Some people, simply, don't care as we are not snobs.
  17. BigP50000's avatar
id rather just pay an extra hundred and get it brand new really
    J_Staunton's avatar
    Ok.
  18. skankingpigeons's avatar
A few weeks ago this was available for like £30 more brand new. Is it that much of a good deal?
    TheHoss's avatar
Probably a better deal for those that don't own a time machine
  19. Brutes's avatar
64 GB also listed now for £249 Well spotted. (edited)
    booyip's avatar
64GB is the better deal I think. Put the difference towards a larger SSD (decent brand 1TB for ~£50 if you shop around).
  20. W_Hosking's avatar
I so want this, i would love it but would never find time to use it. I game on my gaming PC at home, work and read thus not much use for myself but sures its a great device and buy if you game on the go.
    Joseph_JonesxAE's avatar
For what it's worth I rarely use my PC since getting a Steam Deck.
  21. EteoclesP's avatar
Random question, but does this have the same kind of standby function that the PS Vita has? I love that with the Vita you can just press the standby button, and not have to worry about logging out of a game etc. Then resumes in a split second
    EteoclesP's avatar
I just used the magic of google and have found for myself that it does have the same standby function and most users love it. In case anyone else is wondering. I've also pulled the trigger and got one. Thanks OP

I tell you what, just opened mine up and if someone had sold me this as new I’d have had no idea… thing is in immaculate condition, not a scratch or scuff in sight… screen hasn’t got a smudge on it, joysticks looks like they haven’t been touched… and it came packaged like a new item, only thing giving it away being the refurbished written on the sleeve… very impressed.

    Great value.
  27. Diab's avatar
Amazing price, don't forget you can bump the storage up easily with an sd card until you feel the need to swap out the internal, 256 isn't too bad at this price.
  28. Carlos_Carlitos's avatar
    Awesome price !
  29. Lexx_UK's avatar
Great deal. I paid this for a 64GB a few months back. Really should have waited a bit!

    wow

    fantastic value

dont worry bout the OLED model

buy this and an OLED monitor and use as a PC
    xxbluedragonxx's avatar
It’s not going to drive a high resolution monitor too well compared to a dedicated gaming PC…
  31. Jack_Ch_'s avatar
Thanks! I’ve pulled the trigger finally
  32. JackCrusher's avatar
Been in the fence for a while. Have a ps5 and a switch but looking at some of the recent steam deck compatible game prices it seems a no brainer! So finally caved . Now to build up my steam game library!
    bingowings85's avatar
    Get ps5 remote play working
  33. sadbuttrue's avatar
This is the model I got new and it remains the best one to get imo.
I added a large capacity microSDXC card so didn't need open it up - game installs are tiny compared to what is required for a full desktop gaming pc - so a large capacity SD card plus installed 256GB SSD is all you need.
Take mine everywhere, got a 15.6 portable monitor which doesn't need a dock, it's basically a portable pc set up for Steam games.
    neil1104661's avatar
What size microSDXC card you using in Steam Deck?

Had anyone received their decks yet? Since 22nd mine just says 'The parcel has left the parcel center' in The Netherlands but no updates since then. I wasn't expecting Amazon delivery speeds, but this is really slow
    Jack_Ch_'s avatar
Expect it today or tomorrow I think, apparently there isn’t another update until it lands at your front door which is slightly annoying… I’m kinda hoping it comes tomorrow now coz I’m in work all day today and off tmoz lol.

If you buy this do you get the "exclusive carrying case" that they originally sold with? Not sure what the difference from the normal one was
    Alex_H's avatar
I'm pretty sure their all identical, other than the colour of the logo.
