34.20 after cashback with 24 months apple tv+ I think it's still a good deal

I just changed from Virgin cable to this deal. It's very fast but be warned the router is shockingly bad in terms of changing any of the settings. It can take several minutes to access the router login and if you try to save any settings such as DHCP reservations it either takes 5 minutes to save or just times out. It also struggles to handle any more than a few connected devices. You can use your own router (they will give you the PPPoE details if you ask) but this means you can't use your landline. There is also no way to put it into modem mode as a workaround.

So if you have only a few devices connected and no need to adjust any of the settings this will be fine. But if you rely on it for things like home automation, think again. (edited)

You can actually get your sip details off them you may need to get the right agent, there's a Vodafone forum thread on it.

Warning. I have this package and my testing found the supplied router seriously bottlenecks speed to max of -500mbp/s, and most days I was lucky to get near this! I raised this with their support, went through their 1st and 2nd line teams but the consensus was 500mbp/s is acceptable on a 900 tariff. I bought another router, connected in sequence acting as an Access Point, and boom, more than 700mbp/s immediately. It's scandalous that VF are selling these "gigabit" speed packages when they have no hope of delivering them.

Are you trying wired? I get 950/950 almost all the time. WiFi slower unless I’ve using my own kit with WiFi 6E and a 6E client. (edited)

For any normal person here wondering if this deal is for you....it isn't.

This is like buying a Ferrari for your daily commute. You can tell people you have a Ferrari, it is capable of 200mph.....

But you don't need that speed, you likely just do 30mph like everyone else and this is a massively pointless upsell.

I'd go out on a limb and say 80% of people buying this speed never utilise it beyond pressing speed test and watching the numbers. (edited)
    drewc's avatar
I needed the speed for quick uppload/download of large video files for work. I was told it was a ferrari but it's actually a wooden go-cart frpm the 70's. A total con.

I upgraded my Vodafone broadband yesterday to 900mbs and got it for £27pm on their chat... I'm on Openreach

I can only seem to get offered £39 per month rather than £31, anything I'm doing wrong?

You live in an Openreach area rather than a CityFibre area. So you have to pay a higher cost.
  7. drypuri's avatar
How to check whether you are on openreach or cityfibre area please?
    KodaBear's avatar
Try to apply for it and it will show either this price (CityFibre) or the higher price of £39 (Openreach)

Alternatively you can run your address through BIDB.uk to see who's network infrastructure is available where you live.
  8. forest_green's avatar
about to go out of contract with sky, no deals whatsover to remain with them, can't decide between voda or trying EE . Only looking for 500 deal as opposed to 900 on openreach so dearer tariff would apply for me.
  9. FreakyGeek's avatar
Standard ISP routers just aren't up to the task for full fibre and modern technology anymore. Invest (even as little as £60) in a third party router and you won't regret it.
    MarzBarz's avatar
    any recommendations for a router?
  10. drewc's avatar
If it works from the off...great. If it doesn't, there is literally zero customer service. The router is not capable of the speeds advertised and once they have you locked in a contract it is near impossible to get any help. I was promised access to a uk call centre specialised team, this was a lie. Im now lucky to get 100mb while paying for 900. Save yourself the hassle and go with another company.
    matth5182's avatar
Complain further and you get to the directors office, they are UK based and pretty good at sorting issues but it's a fight to get to them. I ended up writing and sending it via recorded delivery, archaic I know but at least they responded. Trying to get past the overseas contact centre drones was nigh impossible

52242839-lTxWu.jpgGreat deal, be careful with them, they like to throttle Internet speed. My was capped to 90 where my speed was 500 complained a lot and they switched server from Manchester closer to my place.

Looks like now they capped me at 320 so need to make another phone call (edited)
    amoulden's avatar
Mine has never been throttled...might be area specific?

i'm an existing Vodafone broadband 900 and mobile customer and out of contract, anyone know how i should go about getting this?
    Yoshi123's avatar
Depends what you pay for the broadband right now, I guess best option would be to call them and say you are thinking about leaving to different mobile network.
Don't think they will lover the broadband price but you might get nice discount on the mobile + £3 off for having both broadband and mobile
  14. CAL23's avatar
We currently have this after switching from Sky's godawful broadband back in October 2023. Paying £29/month right now.
Like others have said, the WiFi signal is terrible but we installed a mesh network.
Using the Deco M9+ and this is the speed I'm getting from my PC with one of the nodes plugged in via ethernet:
    52243756-DYGvV.jpg
    matth5182's avatar
I can get the download but my upload seems capped at 70Mbs - any ideas why? I have my own router and mesh network
  15. mrberd's avatar
I've been waiting over a month for my services to be activated. Definitely the worst installation service I've ever received and that's coming from a long term virgin media customer.
    KodaBear's avatar
Installation isn't actually anything to do with Vodafone. It's done by the company that owns the network infrastructure in your area. That will be Openreach or CityFibre depending upon where you live (or one of their outsourced contractors like Kelly Communications or MJ Quinn that they often employ to work on their behalf)
  16. mb1's avatar
I know their router is pants, but can you use a custom DNS on it? BT Whole Home discs (via a decent fibre ISP router currently) provide my WiFi signal, not their junk.
    blaine's avatar
You can set the DNS to something else not Vodafone’s DNS server.
  17. Mateunio's avatar
Currently paying 41 for virgin 250mbps. Deal about to expire in march so will call them tomorrow. How do you ppl play that game to get deals offers for less than £20?
    Potterified's avatar
Hand your notice in to leave as soon as you reach the one-month-to-go mark. Don't fall for the first one or two calls you get. Wait for the senior retentions team. Have a clear idea of what you want and what you're prepared to pay for it. Don't take the proverbial.

That's how we got £17 for Volt 350Mbps (200Mbps plus a boost for having O2 - Volt). Price locked for 18 months including no RPI increases.
  18. welshblob's avatar
So I assume these people calling up to get deals are not getting the cashback just good value deals on the contract itself?
    Potterified's avatar
    Correct.
  19. TMelt's avatar
When I go through their Broadband Availability Checker, the most advanced option is gives me is Pro II Fibre 2, I can't see any mentione of Full Fibre 900. Does this mean that Full Fibre 900 won't be available at my address or am I going through the wrong link in order to access this?
    KodaBear's avatar
It means that there's no full fibre where you live. You can only get VDSL/Fibre to the cabinet, with the connection sent through the telephone line.

The absolute highest speeds you'll get with that is 80Mb if all conditions are ideal.

Check out BIDB.uk to see if there are any other options for higher speed internet where you live if that's what you're looking for.

    My experience:
I've had vodafone 100mb for over 2 years now on CityFibre and have been happy, out of contract now.

Originally I signed up at £20/month, but now it's £31/month because of those horrible CPI increases and being out of the 24m contract.

I found Octaplus do 150mb for £21 a month, and as soon as I mentioned this to a service advisor that stuck with me for over an hour on chat, and they offered me 200mb for £21 a month to match it. They can't match any cashback deals. They also said that all signups since Feb 21st are rate locked until April 2025.

So, I was looking for 100mb at £28 plus £115 cashback, but now have 200mb for £21 with no cashback, but this works out £168 cheaper across 24 months (£53 cheaper excluding possible cashback), plus the CPI increase will be lower next April, and double speed.

Definitely worth chatting away to them if you can find other deals and aren't in contract.

    PizzaCake's avatar
Someone else in this thread said raise a complaint then get technical support to switch you to a faster server.
  25. lee73's avatar
I've nothing to add about the supplied router, its pathetic.

Speed wise - seems fine, just tested and 940Mb down but only 400Mb up.

My connection has dropped out a few times late evening, not sure if this is them or my ASUS XT9 mesh routers, so I'll not blame Vodafone for this.

One thing to note is they have a weird routing system where you may not connect to the closest data centre, so you may be up north and routed to London and vice versa, this can affect ping times, although mines still fairly decent.

Customer service - woeful, an absolute shower, scripted, uninterested and technically incompetent. I was out of contract with them after about 40 days, had to use the complaints ombudsman due to the crap router. They didn't tell me this when my complaint was resolved, so I went from £29p/m to £32 p/m with £100 bill credit. No great shakes but they should have told me that's what they were going to do. I did thankfully get my PPPoE details quickly and easily via online chat.

Go with them by all means, but do so fully expecting to use your own router and the customer service being possibly the worst you can receive. (edited)

Luckily managed to upgrade to pro 2 for free even though I've only been a customer for a week although this did happen when I was taking a £10 sim out so not sure if it's linked to that but the agent offered it out of nowhere. The difference is massive, I've connected the booster via ethernet and I pretty much get at least 800mbps in all rooms, 900 close to the router and booster.
  26. Willy_Wonka's avatar
Great deal but will never use Vodaphone again. Vodafone is a great company when everything works but any issues at all & you might as well just give up on life completely. Customer service doesn't even exist, not even worth one star reviews.

What 3-in-1 SIM did you take?
  28. Andrew_Hamilton's avatar
I upgraded to this from a perfectly adequate Vodafone service.
    Faster BUT
The router wi-fi signal is ATROCIOUS (I mean nothing in the next room), now none of my smart gadgets (Alexa, doorbell, etc) work.
Their solution...weeks of phonecalls and wifi boosters..that haven't helped.
    Run a mile.
    Erooz's avatar
I've got 500mbps with them. I've got Hue bulbs in all rooms, Blink door camera, Tado valves on all radiators plus a few wifi plugs, and everything works as it should.
  29. sean52d's avatar
    I got this for £23 and £50 credit 😃
  30. LinaBell's avatar
So i think the price will be adjusted in April if we sign up the contract now ?

the system quoted me 39 pounds per month for 900 fibre. (edited)
    xm3's avatar
it says locked till april 2025.
  31. GuernseyGaff's avatar
It's not just about the speed, it's also about bandwidth for the amount of devices we have at home these days. I've got a 500 package from sky myself, family of four and that caters for all that we need to do in 4k TV services etc. My son loves the speed for playstation games downloads, its a dam site quicker than installing from a disc, and they seem to be getting bigger in gb's these days. No problems here. Switched from Virgin gigabit to Vodafone 900 2 months ago and constantly get 920 ish. I use my own router though as most isp ones are junk.

    Hot from me!
I spoke with them through chat - initial offer: £49 per month for 24 months
After showing picture from this topic - £29 per month for 24 months
    Many thanks!

lots signed up a year ago, I wouldn’t pay full price it’s not worth £60 odd pcm.
