P5 perfect picture engine

The Philips P5 engine delivers a picture as brilliant as the content you love. Details have noticeably more depth. Colours are vivid, while skin tones look natural. Contrast is so crisp you'll feel every detail. Motion is perfectly smooth.

If you want more, Philips Wireless Home System with DTS Play-Fi lets you connect to compatible soundbars and wireless speakers around your home in seconds. You can even create a home cinema surround-sound system using your TV as a central speaker.

Loves gaming

Your Ambilight TV with HDMI 2.1 lets you make the most of your next-gen gaming gear with super-responsive gameplay and smooth graphics. Make those jumps and U-turns or drift perfectly through a corner! VRR and FreeSync are both supported. Ambilight's gaming mode makes the thrills feel bigger.

Google TV™

My living room is quite large, around 4.5m from one wall to the other. I don't want to spend over £1.4k for a TV though so at this distance, would it be better to get the 75" mini LED Ambilight (the xtra PML series) or the 85" non mini LED one here?

TV screen size estimators are all over the place, some say 75" is fine, others like Samsung's one recommends their largest 98".. some say if it's 4k then defo >85.

It'll be in the middle of the house so not too much light from windows and main use will be Netflix and a bit of gaming connected to a PC with an RTX 3070. Don't often have friends around if that makes a difference.
    0m4d's avatar
We have a 77” at around 5m and that is plenty big. I’d go for a size that doesn’t look silly in the room and then prioritise picture quality over size tbh personally
  2. daniel.huntQKh's avatar
I have one of these and it's great for films and gaming on. I really can't fault these TVs. Would recommend.

whats the smart features like on these? my android ones a bit slow and i end up using the firestick but id rather not have to, itll be for the living room so would you say for normal tv and a few films this set is good??

Update: arrived today. Delivery guy was nice. I got the TV set up. Picture is great. Better than my last tv. With the default picture mode (clear picture or something) it has smoothing and such settings turned on. This is the "p5 engine" I can notice some artifacts in quick movement but still a decent picture. With it off it's a perfect picture.

Software is much better than my last tv. Very responsive.

it doesn't support Freeview play so it doesn't come with itv, BBC or channel 4.
I've side loaded BBC iPlayer to the tv but not been able to find a itvx or channel 4 apk which works but those two can be cast to the TV from my phone at least.

Can you share a link to any guide you used to sideload the iPlayer app please?

52328943-3Bn3I.jpgLet's see once I get back home after work. Scared of the bleed you guys are talking about. However I'm interested in the 120hz...

I don't like the quality of image on game mode with consol. My 7y old Soni bravía KDL is way HD than this one. Also game mode is a bit weird so I need to fine tune it. However I think 65 is too big for me moving from 55 at this short distance. Also some bleed on the top Nevertheless is cheap and the ambilight is another level... (edited)

so should I go with the 50 inch of this (for a Bedroom) or the Samsung 50 inch QLED Q65c with a free soundbar for £479 or one of the current deals on the 50 inch HISENSE QLED for £299
Which has the better display? Is QLED going to be better than this?
Can Ambilight still be linked to other HUE bulbs?
    sheffield788's avatar
I'm going for the 43 inch, mainly because I need a cheap-ish TV and I like ambilight. I wish it was 4 sided ambilight.
My main TV is the Samsung q60a. That's a close enough model to q65c. A means it is 2 gen older than C. I like it. It is an entry-level qled. Some call it a fake qled. I can't say I see much difference between this and my old 4k UHD Samsung. £479 sounds OK, but it depends on what soundbar they give you.
Hisense qled at £300 sounds like a great deal. I've not tried this brand. Some like it, and others placed negative comments about it. If you go with it, buy from somewhere where you get a good warranty.
So, both the above models are qled, but quite basic, entry models. Hisense is good value, Samsung may be a good deal if you get a good soundbar with it.
This Philips stands out due to refresh rate, 2.1 HDMI, Dolby Atmos, Google TV, and Ambilight. So, it may be better for gaming. However, I think the best thing about this Philips is the warranty. New TVs are not made to last, so 5 year warranty is great.
I don't think I've noticed much difference in terms of image between my LED and my QLED. It may be because it is an entry level qled. I purchased it mainly because it is 65 inches, and I paid an ok price for it, £575. (edited)

I have the Philips ambilight, purchased from Costco on the 3rd year now, been great so far. Netflix 4k and Disney look great can't fault this TV. I will be looking at this for the 75 inch version.
  7. Maverick85's avatar
Ordered mine yesterday for delivery this Saturday. I'm planning to use this as a monitor with my RTX 3060Ti. Anyone else using the 43" as a PC monitor? I'm currently using a Benq EX3210R VA 1440p panel. If its anything like that, I'd be more than happy (edited)
    Richedu's avatar
That what I bought for, am conected macbook air m1, Windows laptop and ps5.
First impression it's big, I used to use 27 inch monitor.
Need more time to set up properly, I can feel strain on my neck after using for 2hrs cos screen size, but hope it adapt.
For ps5 is brilliant, picture quality, ambilight super play little bit dead space and jump so many times, immersion whit ambilight and good gaming headphones amazing,

So for conclusion i'am like so far just neck pain bit worry.52331625-Dcddh.jpg52331625-KQrS2.jpg

Out of interest, what's good about this TV. Aren't some mini LEDs in this price range ? Happy to hear feedback, as I could do with a new telly
    imranhussain's avatar
The philips range of mini leds tv have compromises compared to the LCD tv's. E.g. the operating system is philips own which is mediocre compared to Google tv or Android tv

Are these native 4k 120hz or is it via an overdrive sort of thing where it's 1080p 120hz? Don't want to buy it and not get full 4k 120

    Thank you
    wahid.noor's avatar

Purchased 55" on 27th, dispatched from Costco next day. Local delivery company sadly was only in my areas on Thursdays so 7th was the earliest. Can't wait to try.

I'm replacing my tcl 55c826k but while the screen was good then software was terrible and tcl seemed to not care about updates with even dropping support early.
I've heard good stuff about the Philips TVs so I'm hoping it can be a 1-1 picture quality. also 5 year warranty + 90 days returns is not to shabby.

I've not tried it yet, but beware, some apps will be missing. This below is from Richer Sounds's website, different model Philips.

The link to BBC shows that this model is not certified for using BBC iPlayer. Which is a bit mad considering that some inferior models are certified.

'This model does not come with any apps related to Freeview Play/Digital UK. This includes BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All4, My5. If you wish to access one of these apps, we recommend pairing with a Smart device such as a set-top box or games console or casting these apps to your TV from an Android or Apple phone.'

Mine has just turned up (43") but I don't think I will get round to setting it up until Thursday. Main thing I'm hoping for is no light bleed - I normally watch TV with the lights off and my current Hisense has bleed in all edges. Prior to settling with this I tried two TCLs (also had bleed from all the edges) and a Panasonic (bleed was not as bad but a blob of light near the bottom of the screen). Bought all from Costco so return was easy.

Go to all settings ->display and sound->picture ->motion->motion styles and change to 'off'.

Got mine yesterday. Fairly happy but when I do the channel scan it doesn't have the UK as one of the country options meaning the channel numbers are all over the place. Has anyone else had this?

Update: Software update fixed it. As i said overall it's pretty good. (edited)
  17. Gdotty's avatar
Returning mine as cannot get channels to tune, even after software update. It find channels then says there’s no signal, and the channels are listed in a random order. Has anyone else had this problem :/
    Paul_f1's avatar
No problem here, not updated software either

Are you choosing digital channels only?
  18. george_mooaaa's avatar
well got mine today feels like brick but very light but overall positive 10000x better then hisense for same price, at least operative system is not lagging
  19. The.Lone.Ranger's avatar
Set mine up today (42") and very little usage, but comments so far:

    1) I had no problems with the channels. BBC1 HD is where I expect it to be (channel 101) and Channel 4 is also where I expect it to be (channel 104)
    2) PS5 worked with VRR and 120hz instantly
    3) PC originally decided it was 30hz and when I tried to change refresh rate, 60hz was the maximum! Initially couldn't find how to set above 60hz but got there in the end
    4) HDR on PC looks washed out in Windows (which I understand may be due to poor TV/monitor HRD implementation rather than Windows) but there are some settings which improve this but I've not spent much time experimenting.
    5) Couldn't get optical out to work with my soundbar initially. The connection on the TV seemed to allow the cable to plug partially in with different rotations. Combination of failing eyes with this probably meant it was connected wrong but again, got there in the end.
    6) Not sure yet about edge glow and suspect there is some, but I'm not yet at the optimal viewing point (when I watch TV at night I do so with the lights off so I will know how well the picture holds up tonight (if bleed is bad, how blacks look etc)
    7) At first I thought you couldn't access the settings whilst watching Netflix/Amazon, but there is a 2nd settings button at the bottom of the remote.

If you have nvidia card, have you set control panel settings to (under Display -> Change resolutions):
    Output colour format: RGB
    Output dynamic range: Full

    Limited is 16-255
    Full is 0-255

See if that gets rid of the washed out look
