Guys, really torn between getting a Mac or sticking with Windows.

Basically, I run a business that is very computer-heavy - a lot of O365 use (Teams, Office, Sharepoint, OneDrive), a lot of web browser use e.g. CRM, Wordpress, other online systems etc. Futureproof is also very important as I want a system that will last.

I bought a Dell Inspiron from a deal here a year ago, but this has recently had issues so Dell have agreed to take it back and refund. I have now purchased a Latitude 5540 with I7-1365u, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, 54wh battery with 4 years pro support.

I keep debating going for a Mac instead. I like the look of the UI, reliability, battery life etc.

Any thoughts on what would be best?

I recently sold a Surface for a MacBook Air but only because I already have a desktop WindowsPC. My job relies a lot on O365 and I find that vastly better on Windows, so if it was to be my only device, I would have kept the Surface. I had it for over 2 years and it was still as good as day one.

Sorry, can’t help more than that, sorry but that’s a perspective. My understanding is you’ll get great battery life and future proofing with a MacBook.

Its annoying that base model of even new Maxbook air M3 comes with 8GB RAM in 2024 when phones offering 12GB RAM

Apple should give 16GB RAM as minimum otherwise cannot utilise the power of M1/M2/M3 chip

Yeah it's awful, 8gb was just about ok with the M1 but it really does run out fast if you try to do too much, these air's need 12gb minimum but watch apple make 10gb a norm somehow haha.

Came here for the 8gb ram comments. Wasn’t disappointed

all from people running next to no ram in their TV's, i mean who does't care about the amount of ram in their eastenders watching device? Or the amount of RAM in their instagram device.

You could get the Mac and buy parallels and run Windows on the Mac. Best of both worlds.

Doesn't this kill the battery? I found when I used Windows on the Mac (10 years ago though), it drained the battery faster. Has this improved?

Never thought of the Air as a workhorse, That is why people buy the Pro. If I was doing something intensive then a Pro or Mac Mini would be my tools. I used to have Parallels but the subscription model made it too expensive. Don't miss having windows on my Mac.

Depending on the type of work one does. For me in marketing my work Air is more than enough

« Save 20% off » in the daily picks alert, while I see a 10% discount
    tonkei's avatar
Yup, apple sells these for £999.
    I'm pretty sure that's not a 20% discount.

But it's only £20 more than Apple's education discount pricing! (edited)
