Very good saving on these well built select a weight dumbbells. I bought them last week & I’m very surprised with the design and build quality (no rattles or shakes when using) also they have a smaller footprint compared to the similar set of bowflex adjustable dumbbells (which are bigger when using smaller weights) pro-form are the sister company of Nordictrack who also have a similar set but priced at £349 for the 25kg. Only thing I can see you miss out on these with is the higher weight incriments as these go up in 4kg. If that doesn’t bother you I highly recommend at this price point. Next best price I’ve fpund online for these is £249 at boots (most other retailers have them listed at £299

20kg is lightwork. Anyone serious about weightlifting will need more in 6 months

These type of weights hold value so just sell them after 6 months and buy some heavier ones.. It’s a fair price in my opinion.. lots of people will be satisfied with them for isolation exercises..

The latest research shows you can build just as much muscle using lighter weights than heavier weights. Anything up to the 30-40 repetition range provided that the sets are taken close to failure. If you have the willpower to do this then these dumbbells will last a very long time indeed for the average trainer.

In my many years of lifting experience doing high reps only does not build muscle that well, sure you get a pump and your muscles will look bigger because of fluid retention in the short term. But in my experience training in the 5-8 rep range with compound exercises with a 90% p.r.e making small steady strength increases is the best approach to building muscle. Different rep ranges just target the muscles differently, you do 20 rep bicep curls and you're biceps will burn from latic acid but you do 5 reps to failure with wieghted chin ups and you wont get any latic acid burn.

Buy a cheap pull up bar and stick to a program of just bodyweight stuff, if you are consistent with it and are have specific goals then invest in expensive equipment. 99% of people dont need expensive fitness equipment. You could get into UFC fighting shape with just a pull up bar or if you on a tight budget u could buy some rope and do pull ups from trees. (edited)

If you're planning on dropping your dumbbells then don't go for adjustabells, they will break.

I've got a 24 kg set of adjustables and they are great and space saving.

I do not think they are as good as solid weights of each individual size though. For example they are quite large and somewhat cumbersome to use. Obviously a full set of dumbbells would take up much more space but they feel more comfortable to use..

I also find it more difficult to get a pump on your arms because of the way the weights are sat. They feel like the weight itls more towards the end of the dumbbell. I find that my torso and outer shoulders are taking a bit more strain and it takes more concentration to get a proper arm pump on.

If I pick up a standard solid dumbbell and use it afterwards it feels much like a better range of motion when using it.

Another way to explain this is that the selectable isn't a solid 20kg, its made up of loads of smaller weights and you can feel this when you work them.

With that being said, I still love them and I'm currently looking to upgrade to a set of 34kg adjustables. (edited)

I got northdeer adjustable weights the other month and they are much smaller than any other adjustable weights I've seen, just feel the same as the ones I've used in the gym.

And you can attach the plates onto their kettlebell and barbell handles also saving you even more space.

They are expensive but I saw it as an investment as I can just buy more plates to add weight later on if needed and they should hopefully last a lifetime.

Been looking at these types for a while and this is a superb price.
Was bound to get the He-men comments about them being too light. These will last the average person a fair while before having to up the weights

Owned similar dumbbells in the past. Last me about 7-8 years of light use. I became less confident in them as one of the plates fell off and landed on my head. I had to take it apart and replace some plastic bits to realign them. Since then, I've avoided buying adjustable dumbbells with plastic mechanisms. Sold them off and bought some ironmaster dumbbells which are very expensive but will likely be the last set I buy. I like that they don't rattle and have any give. I can do renegade rows with them and they can handle drops if that's what you do. Not as quick to change, but I adapted my workout to go heavier with lower reps. As with all things, it depends on what your goals are for health.

Can anyone recommend 20kg hexdumbell? I’ve seen 2 for around £90 on amazon not sure if that’s decent value.

Here's me thinking of how many pizzas I can get for £199....

Great deal, these look good, not too cumbersome like the old style of adjustables, they look like they would be well balanced and mimic traditional set dumbbells.

I'm personally quite happy with the 20kg cheap massive ones I bought the other day from this site for £22. Are these really worth 10x the price for the same thing? They are just weights at the end of the day, bulky or not
    rayman1970's avatar
But they are set at 20kg whereas these can be set at various weights for different exercises. Am sure you don't side lateral raise 20kg which is what makes these selectabells great
  15. maxyone1's avatar
Damn, this is a good deal.

I'm slowing working myself up I started on 10kg now I'm on 12kg I can feel myself bulking up so by the time the 20kg come I will look like rocky
  17. IllDigATunnel's avatar
The ones on rpm power will be the same length all the time - no matter what weight you select, so will be more cumbersome to handle than the ones posted here, where if you select the smallest weight then the length of the dumbbell will be much shorter and more manageable
