It features the AMD Z1 Extreme processor, paired with 16Gb LPDDR5-6400MHz Memory, integrated AMD Radeon graphics, and a 512GB of NVMe SSD storage. The Radeon 780M graphics ensures that the Rog Ally is capable of Nvidia GTX 1650 Mobile level performance, and can handle AAA games on medium settings.

It also has an absolutely excellent display. It sports a 7.0" IPS FHD+ 1920 x 1200 touchscreen display, with 500 nits of brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. The display is crisp and vibrant, a joy to use. The Rog Ally also has an SD card slot, as well as ROG XG Mobile interface should you wish to connect a ROG XG Mobile with discrete GPU.

This console is in excellent condition, barely used. All hardware is working perfectly. Cosmetically it is excellent with very minor signs of use.

It comes with original packaging and all accessories.

There is ASUS Warranty until June 2024.

the disclaimer isn't showing in the app for me (Android). On web, it is an image and the URL is not clickable

What are the pluses and minuses versus a Deck?
    Happy_Shopper_'s avatar
Deck has better battery this has better performance.

Deck is Linux, Rog is Windows and arguably more versatile as a second PC.

Rog has Gamepass natively, Deck doesn't.

Rog has serious issues with the SD card getting cooked, Deck doesn't.

I've owned both. Rog better suited to my purposes but Deck probably has a wider appeal due to better battery life.

Do they come with cases or do I have to find one, if so any recommendations?

Being a used device, what are the chances that the device could have something wrong. If so, whats the warranty or refund? Why is the seller selling so many used ones?
    plewis00's avatar
If the warranty runs until June 2024, I would expect these are SD failed and repaired devices from the initial batch. Generally the only thing that does regularly go bad on these is the SD slot, but at this price, I would just gloss over it and spend the saving on a bigger NVMe.

Anyone not tried this mod for cheaper storage?
    plewis00's avatar
Few people here have done it, someone mentioned it above when I asked, but they said it bulges a little and might need some modification to the casing. It's certainly much cheaper than the 2230 cards.
  7. uk90's avatar
Anyone played GTA 5 on this and if so does it run smoothly at max settings or does it need mid settings?

    Decided to buy one.

Could only get the code to work by opening the disclaimer link in an incognito window and logging in again, would not work any other way
    geokarbou's avatar
Can confirm, this is the only way to get the code to work, at least for me. It wouldn't accept it any other way. Thanks Switchy, got one, rip my wallet..

If you were even thinking about getting one of these, you really can't say no at this price. Other than the major SD card issue, which sucks, this is a great piece of kit, plays pretty much anything you throw at it at reasonable quality for a 7" screen.
    eternalomen's avatar
What is the SD issue ?

Prices of these seems to be dropping hard.

Holy smokes, amazing price! Great little handheld console, don't be too put off by 'bad' battery life. This game runs games the Steam Deck could only dream of and you'll get much better performance than on a SD.
    Countyfan81's avatar
What games does it run the SD could only dream of?
  13. Pokkai's avatar
That's a great price for the Ally, a lot of Steam Deck vs. Ally here, at the end of the day everybody is different with a different idea of value, use case, outcome. No point forcing your noise on other people.

They are both great devices, no question, they also compliment each other well, I've had both.

For me, the SD Card issue is unforgivable, I bought at launch and a £700 device should not have those issues. Understood the SSD upgrade alleviates that, to a degree, but still. At this price - it's a great device as a handheld PC, the battery life kills any portability though, unless you're happy to carry a power bank.

Pays your money, takes your choice folks, although my main concern would be a 3 month warranty, if the SD Card is important to you.

For me sitting on a couch, I can just stream from a gaming PC to my Deck with better fidelity and frame rate than both, so what's the point of the Ally in that use case, or Steam Link/Moonlight to my Galaxy Tab with an Xbox Pad, I don't see any use for the Ally, given the portability for anything above Indie is a waste of time because of the battery.
    plewis00's avatar
I agree the SD card issue at £700 was unforgiveable, even more so with ASUS regular gaslighting of the community. However, at £360, if I knew all this, I'd probably just avoid using the SD slot altogether. Most of these Z1 Extreme devices are basically bound to the mains or a power bank if you want full performance, not sure of any other way round it.
  14. alexmurphy01's avatar
I know it’s extravagant but I’m seriously tempted to have this as well as my steam deck just to play Gamepass games.
    bigton3000's avatar
You can play gamepass on the deck?
  15. aseddon130's avatar
    This is an absolute steal
  16. PhlisDee2's avatar
I would recommend the Ally 101% for those whom are existing windows users, yes the touch screen navigation isn't great and the battery life is horrendous. Oh and forget the SD card, that fries very quickly. But I was in a situation where I needed to change my gaming habits due to a little one arriving, so I needed something in handheld form. The Ally fit that perfectly, plus when docked it's a fully functional and quite powerful PC. Yes you need to tweak game settings to get that perfect gaming experience, but that doesn't bother me.
    muzammil1124's avatar
What cable or settings do you use when docking? My frame rate drops too much and as a result there is so much lag.
  17. greavesy1984's avatar
If I was wanting a Steam Deck for retro gaming - up to N64, is this a better purchase?
    doppo666's avatar
I would just get the steam deck the SD card problem isn’t worth it even at this price which is still £360 you shouldn’t settle for any manufacturing problems when buying a product (edited)
  18. noahsdad's avatar
Hot!!!!! Everyone knows the Steam Deck is over rated, comes with issues, and quickly became a budget option. Rog ALLY is the real deal and anyone other than a biased early Steam Deck adopter will say so.

Rog ALLY is clearly now the nation's favourite hybrid handheld PC gaming option
    peterochdale's avatar
    OK
  19. Richard_Mathews's avatar
Is this good to use a small pc and where you can plug into a docking station?
    Mr_Alex's avatar
That would be a good use case, yes! Just make sure your dock has enough usb ports for your needs

If using it portable for work cases though you'd be best of using a keyboard and mouse as the lack of touchpads is a downside on thos device (edited)
  20. Luke_Link's avatar
I own a steam deck and will probably wait for the next wave of handhelds which will probably be more powerful than my PC and make the switch but this is a very tempting price.
    jammiejam2k69's avatar
I'm tempted to get this and sell my deck
  21. crack_shot's avatar
This would make a fantastic PC alternative
just need a wireless keyboard & mouse and a monitor

I had one of these and now have a steam deck OLED. I was chasing the performance carrot but ultimately the deck is just much friendlier to use and that OLED screen makes everything a joy, even if the games run in lower res. Im currently playing Street Fighter 6 and I get 60fps low-medium and honestly it looks great. Having Steam OS, Linux and established well working hardware is just a better experience. To each their own though and that’s purely my experience
    Rhakio's avatar
But 200£ price gap between that
  26. jammiejam2k69's avatar
Might take my 1tb out of my deck and put it in the Rog and 512 in the deck and sell the deck
    Kuzuri's avatar
    That's a brilliant crime plan 👏
  27. N1Andy's avatar
Can I just say how nice it is to see them using UXGA resolution on these (rather than the horrid FHD) - 1920x1200 fits so much more on the screen in a productive way!
    Mark_Moorby's avatar
It doesn't use that, it's standard 16:9 1080p which is actually better for gaming (which is what these are for). The steam deck uses the aspect ratio you're talking about and it usually has black bars top and bottom because games don't always support it
  28. BrianButterfield's avatar

steam deck oled costs way more and is less powerful
  29. Romalat's avatar
Gave Heat! I had bought the Steam Deck when it came out but had to sell it as I never used it tbh. See when it comes to these devices, only buy them if you are going to use them. Mine was collecting dust and it was the 512mb version. Managed to get £400 for it though via a family member. I took the hit on what I paid but was better than just sitting there.
  30. ZackAttack's avatar
Bought it a few weeks ago and decided to return it after a few days. As good as the specs are and the potential for great performance it's still a very underwhelming product. Many of my games didn't work due to dodgy drivers (everything was up to date). And if you want any respectable performance in modern games you'd have to deal with less than an hour of battery life.
Also build quality is hit or miss, my unit's backlight was not uniform and it's very distracting in dark scenes (especially after getting used to OLED)
  31. m1stergeorge's avatar
I see the 120Hz display but can it consistently deliver 100+ FPS in games like Fortnite etc?
    brendanb581's avatar
On performance settings I get around 100 yes

    Steam Deck or nothing.
    plewis00's avatar
Steam Deck + Windows handheld (GPD Win 4, Legion Go, Ally) + emulation handheld (Anbernic, Retroid Pocket) is the best setup
  36. laccc's avatar
Wow that's a steal, thinking to try it but love my Deck oled so much I don't think this could do any better as less battery life and lack of haptic trackpad is a deal-breaker already to me
    plewis00's avatar
I miss the touchpads and the ones on the Deck are really quite good, Legion Go might be a viable option for you.
