  • The Meaco DD8L Junior is an award winning dehumidifier, winning the Best on Test Award 2013. Being a desiccant dehumidifier means that it is lighter, quieter and more energy efficient than standard models. Thanks to Meaco control logic this model keeps running costs to a minimum. This money saving feature makes this dehumidifier very popular with customers and one of our best sellers.
  • This dehumidifier is quiet enough for use in hallways or bedrooms and with control logic it will turn off when the appropriate humidity level is reached. Should the relative humidity rise, the DD8L Junior will start extracting/drying automatically.
  • Being a desiccant dehumidifier the DD8L Junior is able to function at temperatures close to freezing; this makes it an ideal choice for most environments, locations and conditions. This model can be set to continuously drain the water and so requires very little supervision.
  • All Meaco dehumidifiers come with a 3 year warranty as standard.

If you need a dehumidifier, desiccant ones are more expensive to run than compressor variants but they work in rooms less than 10c. Anything above 10c you're better running a more efficient compressor dehumidifier

Exactly right. I have this model and I have a compressor type. I've raced them. Put them on the same room with empty tanks and put them on a energy meter. I've found that at 12-13⁰C the compressor uses half the energy of the Desiccant (This item) but that it extracts half the water too. So this is the sweet spot where they cross over. Compressors will struggle at low temperatures, having to work harder and become less effective at removing water, whilst at higher temperatures they excel. Desiccant dehumidifiers are more 'slow and steady'. They are more effective at warmer temperatures too, but cope really well at low temperatures.

In terms of noise, I've fallen asleep with my desiccant on low fan speed. It's really loud on full speed. My compressor is also run at low speed and while it's more of a rumble, I don't find it to be noisy. Nosier by a bit, but not noisy. At higher fan speeds I don't think anyone could sleep with either type being used.

Not many people will be dehumidifying out-buildings where temperatures are likely to be much below 12⁰C, so I'd recommend compressor types for most people. Large tank is important, and the efficiency of the pump increases with weight (size) so go for a heavy one (they have wheels) unless you plan moving it up stairs. I which case, buy 2.

Also humid air is less dense than dry air, so the best place for them if you want whole-house is a landing. The dry air will sink downstairs and you'll give the dehumidifier the best possible conditions of warm and wet air upstairs. (edited)

Don't buy the Junior, get the standard. It will save you electricity in the long run (it has more features).

Had this model for about 18 months and it's been great at drying washing etc. Big fan of Meaco products, this is a great deal factoring in the warranty too.

are they noisy like the compressor ones?
    Gkains's avatar
Well, they have no compressor but still need to have a fan.
There is no way to getting away from needing a fan.
We have one and I think they are fine especially at the first two fan settings.

We’ve got this for a few years now. Definitely recommend. Dries well and can use in lower temps

Does this come with 3 yrs guarantee from this company?

I've got this and it's very efficient and quiet. Gives off a bit of background heat as part of the process so it's good for winter use.
I usually set it to come on overnight for 2 hours on cheap rate electric.
Hardly ever wake up to condensation apart from when I forget to empty it

Desiccant ones are also better because they don't have flammable gasses in them.

Compressor dehumidifiers have flammable refrigerant gasses in them (propane).

Provides piece of mind, especially if putting a bedroom or something where you wouldn't want propane leaking.

One thing I don't like about the design of this one is how they have the power cable on the same side of the tank.

The power cable on mine kind of sticks up so can get knocked why taking the tank out.

Would have been better if they had put the power cable on the opposite side of the tank. (edited)

even in a large fridge freezer the amount of Butane in them is about the amount of butane in your average lighter. In a dehumidifier it's pretty negligible.
Desiccant versions are better though because they are quieter, cheaper to run and work at lower temperatures.
