How long would that oled last?
    vulcanproject's avatar
Long enough the machine itself will probably be obsolete. As long as you use pixel shift and panel refresh which is default on these, plus a dark screensaver on a short timer doesn't hurt

Bought this a few days ago from their ebay outlet for 473 refurbished. I can confirm it's a good laptop for media consumption and productivity. The CPU and ddr5 ram make it very snappy. This isn't really designed for gaming, although you can probably run lighter titles at lower settings. The Oled looks good but it makes text a little bit fuzzier than LCD. This is a minor nitpick and you can easily get used to it. Runs cool and quiet during normal use.

I don't know much about these things but that looks like a great deal.

I'm now getting buyers remorse, just ordered a dell Inspiron 16 with the i7-1360p and the according to User benchmark, the i5 in the deal laptop is much better.....no idea what that's all about.

The deal laptop also has a far better screen.

I get a works discount at dell so this came in at the same price.

The dell is less powerful on cpu but uses less power then the Asus. So likely better battery life.

I've been watching the price on this for a couple of weeks. It was £899, but I thought the price might drop in the sales. I think it's a decent budget laptop for what it is. Currys are also offering 24 months interest free credit. They're also offering free next day delivery with DPD (was £6.99). (edited)

had Vivabook Pro. Asus app kept warning me about screen burn in every time I increased brightness over 60% it was annoying. Screen looked good but it's not massive difference I would prefer QHD IPS.
    maxtesti's avatar
Had this for almost two years. I always keep the brightness level at 75% and never get any warning. It works and looks as good as new. Most people (like 99.9%)who get this laptop will never experience "burn-in". It only happens if you stay on the same page for hours every day for months on end. Then this is not a laptop for you. It's just a little common sense, FGS!

At this price range, it's a fantastic laptop. I can't fault it in any way.

I picked one yesterday to give as a present. One good thing that hasn't been mentioned is how light this is. I can barely feel it in my backpack

Just bought a similar one of these Vivo laptops with OLED on an Amazon deal. Used twice and the screen has gone! Really disappointing. To be fair Amazon have been excellent and will refund us once it's collected. Bought for my daughter's studying and Uni.

    Technically only half gone

Having to return mine as while the screen was amazing for videos etc, the text rendering seemed to be causing me quite bad eye strain. Apparently it can be to do with the pixel rendering on OLED screens. Could just be some people are a bit sensitive to it, but thought it was worth mentioning.
    griffinm7's avatar
Yeah, I've experienced the same issue. It wasn't helped by the colour settings inside the MyASUS App. It puts a warm hue over the screen, presumably to protect against burn-in? This means whites aren't brilliant white. I switched from a 2016 Dell XPS, and the difference between the two screens for brilliant whites and text rendering is like night and day. The Dell wins hands down. As a solution, I had to remove the colour files attached to the MyAsus App, and the screen is much better in terms of whites. However, the text rendering is still naff unless you zoom up to at least 125%. Only then did I find the screen better able offer sharper text. But as you say, the screen is amazing for video content. That's the only reason I've held onto mine. (edited)

Wonder if this would be good enough to run Lightroom and DiVinci for videos ?
    PennyPincher69's avatar
for sure, the CPU is quite fast and the DDR5 ram make it very good for video editing (by laptop standards)

Grabbed this from Currys this afternoon as I somehow managed to break my Lenovo ideapad 5. Haven't used it other than to set it up but I think the blue and orange are fantastic and the screen is ridiculous when it's next to my Lenovo. Can't believe how clear and bright the screen is.

Looking forward to using it on Monday and hopefully it doesn't freeze as often as my Lenovo did.
    markeas's avatar
How you getting on with it?
  11. thingswelike's avatar
Got this on Saturday and moved everything across from my old Lenovo.
The screen is amazing and the keyboard is great, and those are the main things for me.

Not too much bloatware. I just uninstalled McAfee using their uninstall tool.

All seems really good. It would be better with more usbs and upgradability, but you can't have everything!
Main thing is the screen - really hard to find good work PCs with decent screens at this price these days.

I'll report back if I find anything negative.
I tend to run it plugged in, so wont be able to offer much feedback on battery life. (edited)

Hello. I just got this today and noticed that for example when I'm in the windows settings. Each time I scroll and stop, the screen brightness would ever so slightly flicker. Did you have anything like this?
  12. Yovgind's avatar
I bought this at the weekend too - my first ever laptop. It's very nice, beautiful screen, backlit keyboard, not completely terrible port selection, reasonable quality sound. Performance seems to be great too, which is the main thing, and value for money is very high.

The build quality isn't incredible, but then we are talking about a relatively cheap plastic laptop, not a Macbook. However, I scratched the paint on it within hours by dropping my phone onto it from about 20-30cm, so be very careful because that blue coating (the plastic is dark grey underneath) can come off very easily. (edited)
    maxtesti's avatar
I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol (or strong detergents) to wipe it clean either. It will strip the outer coating off.

I have an alert for 'laptop' but was not alerted about this. Any idea what category this is listed under?
  14. Bigbag's avatar
Is no ethernet port normal now?
    Musicrab's avatar
Quite common due to slim cases. A USBC hub is almost a mandatory purchase these days. Plenty about, the only issue being to get one in the same colour as laptop. eg amazon.co.uk/UGR…XX/
  15. maxtesti's avatar
Any chance this will be reduced to £499 any time soon?
  16. Kasia29's avatar
    HDMI port?
  17. red_me765's avatar
No Ethernet port on the laptop, so if you wanna use a Ethernet port you will need a Ethernet to usb adapter..
  18. mario_2's avatar
    Why didn’t I see this 3 days ago…
  19. red_me765's avatar
If you go with amazon you can't use top cash back or quidco.

For a bit more money if you have a Costco membership isn't this one a lot more future proof...
    hotukdeals.com/dea…211
    sausages74's avatar
I think the Costco processor and ram are slower/older gen than the Currys deal.
  21. rawkinrich's avatar
Ordered, thanks. Lets hope they don't cancel the Quidco cashback.
  22. maxtesti's avatar
That sucks. Was it brand new or refurbished? I've been using mine almost daily for many hours for almost two years; not a single problem.
If you're still looking for a laptop, you might find this interesting... Vivobook Go 15
I was going to get that but then this one here showed up.
    Good luck.
    Nicklearse's avatar
Yeah brand new. Now bought another higher spec Vivo with Geforce graphics and a 16" screen. My daughter had an Acer Vivo before and has been brilliant for the last 3 years, so that was why we bought another. I wonder if it's the ribbon belt that's come loose in or something. Let's hope this one lasts! (edited)
  23. lukenicholaschristopher_a's avatar
Just ordered, has anyone's cashback tracked on this through quidco? How much does it come to?
    rawkinrich's avatar
Mine tracked at £5.49 - I'm guessing it'll change before it's (hopefully) confirmed
  24. legodealsuk's avatar
I have the same question. The Vivobook S seems to be higher spec. I'm looking for a laptop for photo editing, the S looks slightly better
  25. FrogDude's avatar
Can't find it in stock at 10 closest stores, no home delivery.
  26. rawkinrich's avatar
Still available. Been this price for quite a while now!
