Excellent price for these very compact 1.7AH Powerstack batteries. The McLaren decal ones are discounted way more than the conventional yellow ones. Great alternative to the 5AH, retains the power output without the weight or bulk. Obviously shorter run time but the trade off in ergonomics and compactness for certain applications is well worth it.

    What does powerstack mean

These are supposed to do 2000 Vs 1000 charges cycles so are better in long run. But it's 2ah Vs 5ah, so technically the 5ah would last longer 2*2000=4000 Vs 5*1000=5000.

The actual output from batteries is the same at 18v , but it does drop under load, that's why saws work better not just last longer with 5ah Vs 2ah, it's to do with the number of cells in the battery.

These 2ah powerstack have about the same output as 5ah, but under half the capacity.

They benefit tools like the dcd805 that can use the power but as designed to be small and lightweight.

In summary, if money is no object is great, it's better than the 2ah in every way but it's 3x the price, if you need light weight, great, but for most, 2ah/5ah is better value!

However in this case the price is alot less, these used to cost £70-80, so £30 powerstack Vs £25 standard. This is a bargain. (edited)

Does this work with the regular charger or does it need a special charger?

Regular dewalt charger works fine 🏻

If I didn't have so many batteries already I could be tempted by this. 5ah batteries on drill and drivers are too big and heavy. These would be a perfect compromise.

That’s why I’ve got one on my 850. Go on you know you want to

Why would you buy weak budget battery over this, it's not even as compact?

Ordered one, I have a regular 1.7ah powerstack for 40ish, and they do give 3 years warranty on these batteries. (edited)

Good price, but I can't recommend the powerstack, unless you really find the standard batteries heavy. I find these to have a really short life even for lightweight use with the led light, drill/driver etc.
    fonzoo's avatar
Really? I thought the whole point was they had sustained higher output for longer?

Battery delivered , well packaged in proper mint Dewalt box. however disappointed as battery inside looked quite scuffed , it was certainly not a minter , definitely been used or at well handled etc. Certainly among the most average of conditions any of my menagerie of Amazon , Ebay etc bought batteries have arrived in over the years.

Was able to register it for 3 year warranty so not all bad.

I ordered two and they were both absolutely spotless inside their mint Dewalt cardboard boxes.
