From my experience those cheap square rulers are never really square

Got this last week, and it IS square... maybe not NASA accurate, but way more than you need for woodwork.

The only cheap square I’ve bought that was actually dead on square!

I have the 200mm and the 350mm and am chuffed with both.

For the DIY I get up to though, I'm more likely to get use out of a bigger roofing square than plugging the gap in my try square collection (of two). My 7" roofing square sees far more use than both my try squares put together as it's nice and easy to use for marking lengths of wood for cutting.

Anyone who buys a square, be it cheap or not, should check it against something they know to be square before they start using it.

Great advice. I’ve bought two of these to check them against each other to be sure.

To check square all you need is a plank (bit of decking for instance) and a pencil, draw a line from one side, then move the square to the opposite side... Pencil line lines up and you're done.
Same with levels, easy to check... Just rotate it 180 degrees, cheap doesn't always mean rubbish.

I have a level that came with a tv wall bracket...it doesnt give the same reading when rotayed 180 degrees

CamelCamel shows this has been cheaper (£3.67) but in the main hovering around the £6 mark for 5 years until last July, when it went up and down a couple of times to the 'RRP' of £10, before coming down once more (to £4.91, as of this post). A typical Amazon story of course...

Not a patch on their original quality. Accuracy is appaling

£4.90 today so 3p less - I've got old technical drawing tools that are bang on square so if this turns up different I'll just bin it seeing I did not stake & lose even a penny at Cheltenham..
