First of all, to get around the potato problem, just coat the solenoid armature in grease. Lithium grease, perhaps, might to a better job than something from the kitchen. Thixotropic, if you have some. The coil of the solenoid is powered long enough to slowly retract the armature through the stiction of the grease. Sudden g forces, aka potato impacts, just aren't long enough to do that.

I subscribe to the "two safes" approach. The first (and this would do perfectly for the role) is bolted down in the downstairs below stairs cupboard. It's got old bank cards, foreign currency notes that never got exchanged back, paste jewelry in expensive boxes, etc. Who goes looking for a second safe, once they have found one??

Just make sure you leave a note for the thief to rob the 1st safe and not the 2nd.

Youtube it, I think they bounce one off the matress and it opens the mechanism. (edited)

How do you bounce it off a mattress if it's bolted to the floor/wall?

I had this safe just over a year and it's packed up. Batteries drain quickly and now rely on the key only
