How it Works

LifeStraw uses an advanced hollow fibre membrane technology. The membrane has microscopic pores that trap contaminants larger than 0,2 microns. Water is able to pass through but dirt, bacteria and parasites are bigger than the pores and get filtered out. It's a highly efficient method of filtration and does not require chemicals, batteries or moving parts.

How do I Know the Lifestraw Has Reached ist Maximum Filter Capacity?

The flow rate of your LifeStraw will decrease, and then stop pulling water through once it reaches the end of its lifespan. You can increase the lifespan by cleaning the LifeStraw after each use. You can rest assured, that you will never drink contaminated water from a LifeStraw - when the water stops flowing through it, you know it is time for a new one!

Also recommended for Thames water customers.....

I don't think this would make Thames water drinkable. (edited)

Essential now for drinking wild water in England if you aren’t put off by the condoms, ST’s & lumps of faeces floating by the end of the straw 8” from your face

Interesting.. So, I'm advised to drink bottled water due to some health conditions (north UK where I understand the water is generally considered cleaner than many parts of the world already). I generally buy mineral water in bulk at around 15p per litre. If these individual straws give 'up to' 4000 litres it seems they would be far more cost effective (at 14 pound each) and environmentally friendly(? Assuming there is no great environmental loss to this product) than buying bottled water. Thoughts? (edited)

I drink mostly bottled water and have no health conditions, it's good for you and I'd stick with the bottled water. (edited)

After watching this video, I wouldn't use this type.

I'm a little suspicious. The reviews for the Pure clear winner on Amazon seem very mixed, and the good ones look like obvious paid promotions.

Do these have an expiry date if not used?

According to their site it has an unlimited shelf life when not used and kept in cool, dry conditions.

Theoretically could I drink out of the Thames with this? Not going to, but curious

The filter is 0.2um, it would filter out bacteria and solids etc

You would still get the chemicals and... Most importantly, any virus. I am a bit shocked this is marketed as safe to drink blah blah when most viruses are smaller than 0.2 um

Be careful with these. Viruses would not be filtered. Same for chemicals.

Ok for an emergency yes but...

These are going to be standard issue to all homes soon given the lack of care water companies show.
