The reviews I watched where I took it off my shortlist at the time - and some of these issues may have been sorted out by software patches, I don't know, I need to take another look and see if there were follow up reviews - there were focusing issues, especially in low light, crappy wide angle camera, though that's not untypical at the price, not great video stabilisation, though you wouldn't necessarily expect good "staib" at the price, problems with overheating/the phone shutting down, just an absolute train wreck, some fed up reviewers raging at Samsung.
I should say these were reviews where the reviewer purchased the phone anonymously with their own money, rather than the whole cosy if you give my product a favourable review, I'll send you more samples of things to 'review' so you can further grow your channel. In fairness to Youtube, there are quite a lot of withering reviews of this model
But!
Those reviews were early reviews at full retail price and the funny thing is, or at least I find it funny, when a budget-midrange phone drops significantly in price, the review of it changes a bit! Suddenly it's almost a good phone, right?!
Assuming some of the niggles have been sorted out by updates, seems like good value to me if it's not a used/returned phone, a decent number of OS and security updates, being Samsung. Hot, for me (hopefully no pun intended).
Not sure how different it will be as some countries editions don't support NFC and other options (edited)
With the turning off of 3G, and 4G/5G being pretty much data only, my calls will rely on 2G (which wont get turned off as too many devices rely on it). so poorer phone call quality for me, but I rarely call (things like whats app calling works via data still).
In the US the turning off , of 3G has left a lot of peoples with brick phones they cannot make calls on as 3G was the only way to make a real call in many places, similar in Australia (again the likes of Whats App you can still use the data to phone/video call /voice note through the app but both parties need the app to work).
They are all pretty much the same now. just a little computer in your pocket you take nice photos, videos, and play basic games. Long gone are the days when you pressed for a thoto ant it took a second or two to respond.
Such a waste of money & tech , pushed by the app programmers refusal to make programs backwards compatible with older OS, driving you to buy buy buy.
hundreds for a device that will go in the bin after 2 years. not very "eco friendly" either.
Sorry, rant over haha.
The rest is superb, very nice build quality as well. (edited)
