I got a Refurbished one(was brand new) from the Vax eBay store for £100. And even at that price I am not too impressed, at £160 I would be really disappointed.

I've had one for 3 years and it does a good job, however it tends to drip out the back where the cleaning fluid pot sits, I don't think it is a very tight fit and so expensive cleaning fluid tends to get wasted (it's £45 for a large container).

i bought one and i dunno if my carpets were so dirty but i just used hot water and i could see dirt coming out so i never bothered using the liquid

The heat generated by the motor gets directed into the carpet so, the carpet dries out quickly. That masks the amount of dirty water the thing actual extracts.

A good experiment is to finish up cleaning your carpet 'til your done and ready to put the machine away.

But go back, place some pressure (your foot) on the front of the machine where the extraction slats are and switch it back on. It then extracts an astonishing amount of dirty water from what you'd thought was a well cleaned carpet.

Another way of going about it is to monitor the amount of water being put into the carpet and, the amount being extracted. There's a huge difference.

Ultimately, it's a bit like washing your hair but not rinsing it properly. (edited)
