Cheapest this has ever been.

This would work in a PS5 despite being below the RECOMMENDED (not required/minimum) speeds. You should buy a heatsink if you want to use this in a PS5.

Kingston’s NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is a substantial next-gen storage solution powered by a Gen 4x4 NVMe controller. NV2 delivers read/write speeds up to 3,500/2,800MB/s¹ with lower power requirements and lower heat to help optimize your system’s performance and deliver value without sacrifice. The compact single-sided M.2 2280 (22x80mm) design expands storage up to 2TB² while saving space for other components, making NV2 ideal for thinner notebooks, small form factor (SFF) systems, and DIY motherboards.

Available in capacities from 250GB – 2TB² to give you all the space you need for applications, documents, photos, videos, and more.

  • Gen 4x4 NVMe PCIe performance
  • Ideal for Laptops & Small Form Factor PCs
  • Capacities up to 2TB²

Fantastic value, but not for specialised use. Kingston's own site linked to a review where good NVME drives could do a text search operation twice as fast as this device, and that's read only. It's dramless TLC, yet has the endurance of QLC. Continuous writes drop to a VERY low speed after a relatively modest data transfer.

For ordinary non-server non-heavy-video use, this should be great, although there are probably better devices to have your Windows install partition on (the OS does a lot of small mixed r/w ops, where latency matters).

Is it worth paying a few 10s of quids more for a better device? For simple game storage- no. For your mixed media collection- no. For anything else possibly yes.

Nope, Kingston switced the NV2 to QLC a while back (without changing the model number/product code).
There's a very slim chance that some stores will have old TLC stock, but I'd not bet on it. (edited)

Will this work on a gen3 motherboard?

Yes, at slower speeds, though I doubt it will be noticeable.

Anyone taken the risk and planning to use this in their PS5?
    HughMungus69's avatar
Plenty of people have done that and saying it's currently fine. For the future, we don't know if they'll be made redundant in a future update as it's far below the recommended minimum speed.

Hi! Which is better for external data storage - this or Crucial P3 (gen 3 but pretty much same speed). 3 vs 5 years of warranty and £80 vs £91

I remember paying this price for a 250GB sata SSD back in 2014. Crazy times.

dam I bet by this time next month we will be seeing 4TB for £75. Now if RTX 4000 Series GPU can just nudge to the £200 bracket I will be lapping it up
