Dangerous. Avoid using for adults too.

How and why? My kids have used these for many years without any issues.

Genuinely intersted in a number poll to see how many of these get used regularly or end up in the back of the cupboard because they're never around when you actually need one.

If the intention is to reduce your footprint, why not re-use a good quality plastic straw? We re-use plastic containers all the time. I get durability could be an issue for kids. For adults, i'm sure this is less of an issue. I find the bubble tea straws are strong and sturdy. I always keep a few around and re-use those.

Also, while we're having this debate, here's some data relating to # times a reusable straw needs to be re-used to balance the emissions/energy footprint. So according to this data, this 8pk will need to be re-used around 1200 times (8 straws x 150 times) before any gains are realised. (source). Reusing one straw EVERYDAY (assuming the alternative would be a disposable plastic) will take at least 3 years to break even.

Same goes for "single" use plastic bags from the supermarket, they are a fabulous invention, cheap, strong and a "bag for life" needs to be used 500 odd times to be equal on an environmental level (oh and now I need to buy fresh bin bags as well). The virtue signallers do not care if overall the impact is worse for the environment... Which it frequently is. (edited)

my parents had this and my brother ( whos a doctor) told thm to get rid of it. The problem is you drink and slip this causes a lot of damage. Accidents happen. espically with young kids and old people.

If they were that much of a risk they would have to carry warnings. The young and old should never leave the house, never get in a bath or shower, even getting out of bed is surely too risky?

Glad I stocked up on proper plastic ones years ago

Reminds me of Red Dwarf. Was it Psirens the one where there’s a joke about sucking your brain out through a straw?

Metal straws kill the fizz immediately in a drink

These straws are a serious safety risk for the vulnerable. Google 'metal straw accidents' and you will know what most here are on about.

A woman was killed when she fell onto a metal drinking straw that pierced her eye socket and entered her brain, an inquest heard.

She was half cut, and the issue was the fixed top of the hipster glass she was using...
