    Overall good value.

    12700 £260 (hard with 12600KF being £100 less though)
    3070 | in new be 4060Ti 8GB £360 Price (hard with 6700XT at £300 though)
Lo B660 WIFI £99 --> 79 H610 (as good as many H610 in terms for quality on VMS)
16GB 3200mhz CL19/22 £30 (high CL as usual with acer, not good for intel)
Lo PSU £30 (enough... for product)
512GB nvme £25 (low speed type, but allright)
1TB HD £25 (back up data storage)
Case poor £40 with stock cooler meh £40

Valuation on parts: 850, inclusive of win given.

Postives: Decent for retail market, good for folks who can obtain usage out of more cpu power,
negatives: Temps, can be beaten by other systems for gamers elsewhere for budget.

Verdict: 50/50 dependable on usage, adhock core user system.

I m really interested for this machine but some comments in Curry's webpage have given me second thoughts:

-Overall a very good pre-built machine. However be aware of the 16gb of ddr5 Ram.If you need to upgrade this you can only use a single stick which is more expensive as the other channel is blocked behind the cpu cooler
-Spec wise this thing is nearly a beast, however, Asus has cheaped out on the cooling causing the pc to thermal throttle when playing virtually any game.
-Machine is good but limited information about motherboard provided such as what type of memory supported. I have tried 2 memory detecting tools and neither can detect which memory is suitable for the machine and the memory type installed is different to what the manufacturer states is compatible. Also limited upgrade options on the motherboard in respect to number of NVme drives which are supported
-Who thought it would be a good idea to put a stock cooler on a 10th gen i7 CPU?CPU runs hot! Hot enough to throttle and cause the whole system to hang momentarily at the most inconvenient times! The i7 hit 100°C after about 12.5mins of of a popular FPS game (I lost my Gulag!) Apparently, the chips have a safety feature to prevent them exceeding 100, but they get "scorched"... Scorchio!

Any thoughts from anyone who knows please?

Only that people that mention "2 memory detecting tools" but not which are a pain. I haven't found anything that CPUID hasn't been able to identify.

It looks like it might be possible to kill 2 birds.... replace the cooler AND thus free up the memory slot.

Yes, processors will throttle at high temperature - but not quickly enough if the rate of temperature rise is very steep. eg try to run one without a HSF will kill it. If not overclocked - the throttling on a standard HSF should keep things safe enough. But rather a waste to do that when better HSFs are easy enough to fit and don't cost much, in relation to a machine of this cost.

Good built for the price, issues highlighted can be addressed without hassle.

For most people the processor is totally unneccassary, get a £100 CPU and bump the GPU. 3070 is old now.
    trevcjohnson's avatar
3070 is older but still very good.

I take it you can easily add more ram and hard drives?

You'd think it would have decent cooling being a mid-range PC, but there's a good reason i settled with a Legion T5 (though it was refurbished - like new from LaptopsDirect and I paid £899 for it) with a R7 7700 and RTX 4060 Ti...cooling. Because i'm a lazy bugger, and I cba to replace a stock cooler, so I prefer if my OEM systems come with good cooling from the outset. A stock cooler for an i7-12700 is as useful as a bulletproof tea towel. Having owned the 3060 Ti version of this system, with the same CPU, I could have told you I was gaming on a Nitro gaming laptop from 2019, with the CPU temps! (edited)
    medicgaming123's avatar
That being said, it's still reasonable for the price, but ventilation and cooling performance is subpar, and it's only going to eat into longevity.

Value-wise its not the best really.
Only makes sense for people not wanting to do any research and/or build themselves.
And the case/cooling will make it hard to upgrade over time.

On the subject of the over heating, that sounds more like an issue with one machine. I have a 12400f (i5) with stock cooler and 3070. Highest temp I've ever seen is low 80s. Getting to 100 suggests something wrong to me. (edited)

that the cpu temps or gpu? guessing cpu but damnnn I'd lose my mind at those temps lol. I know they can go that high and higher on some but eep.
