Is this better than the 12000 BTU russell hobbs one that was on amazon for £250 a couple months back? How come this has such a high RRP in comparison?

I have this AEG model and can vouch for it. Purchased around 2 years ago at full price and it's great, does a good job at cooling down a fair size room.

from my experience , the ones with the fan on the top like this , rather than a grid in the front seem to have better noise insulation and perform better .. but obviously there can still be variation in models

Have the 9000btu version bought on 13/7/19 for £390. This a bargain. I love my machine.

I bought at the same time for a very similar price.

I've been through all sorts of cheap air conditioners, the AEG cool very well, the noise is lower than most and they are very reliable.

    Thoroughly recommended.

I've just noticed a private number attempt to call me 30 minutes ago, also the tracking is now visible.

So hopefully same as Glenmore3685 I can expect it to arrive Tomorrow or Tuesday

DONT BUY FROM AEG. - They sent me a damaged unit

I eventually had a return call from them today and they can't replace it as they have none in stock.

    AWFUL customer service, awful company.

But will return every year. I've had my portable air con machine for over 10 years now, worth every penny.

Have to love the "Window ventilation seal kit required (sold separately)" If it's required then why isn't it included? How much extra does this add to the price?
And there's a 'Dust Filter' which will also need to be replaced from time to time, make sure you buy one as these things have a habit of becoming unavailable and the machine becoming a very expensive paperweight without one.

OK update, despite being told I wasn't going to get one (due to an issue with their website) and having a tracking link that doesn't work I just got a call confirming that mine will be delivered on Tuesday.

No idea what is going on but I'm not complaining. Shame I'm not getting it tomorrow though.

I have read that portable air conditioners cost more to run than ducted air conditioners. This one says it is A rated for efficiency but it still looks like it is 1.3 KWh per hour, so at say 27p per KWh, and for an average night of 8 hours, that would cost just under £3 per night to run this, or around £90 per month. I remember when my entire electric bill was less than £90 per month. His could quickly cost more than the machine itself, so I guess the focus should be on the running costs when comparing, and not just the initial price.

Yes Ive seen this about a lot too. the cup a coffee a day theory. Youd be nearly at £1200 annually on "just a £3 cup of coffee"

Nearly tempted to buy one years ago. Glad I didn't, the brief warm weather at the time ended the following day and it returned to wind and rain and a chilly breeze.

For the next few nights I'll sleep downstairs on the sofa if it gets too warm. The weather is due to break next week anyway. (edited)

Lucky I went with the 9000 one delivered today for £336 (originally £490) I guess as this deal linked to the 12000 model it got sold out quick.
I ordered it Tuesday night at 10:30pm.

This is an excellent portable aircon though not as efficient as the Delonghi Pinguino PAX100.

No luck with getting the tracking to work, I tried the link in the email and manually on the couriers website. I'll check and see if it's updated tomorrow, there is a an AEG order number and courier order number on the email, so it's looking promising.

I'm afraid this is pretty cacky raphael for it not to have a heat function at this price.
  22. herrbz's avatar
    herrbz
Forgive my ignorance, but I've seen various portable air con units that have different BTU outputs, but many of them have the same wattage. How does that work?

E.g. if one unit has 10k BTUs, and another has 8k BTUs, but both say they use 1000W, how does electricity consumption vary?

How do these compare to a dyson hit/cold fan?
    herrbz's avatar
    herrbz
I have that Dyson, and while it says "cold" it just means it's a fan - it's not actively cooling the air like an air conditioner does.

Buy DeLonghi.. AEG is complete toilet now it's electroklonk
  33. ziggycat's avatar
    ziggycat
it couldn't have been done in transit as the filter cover (which is plastic) would have sustained damage.

So the only conclusion is this was a refurb / customer return or graded unit.

I called them on Tuesday and was told ‘don’t worry we are busy but your order will be despatched shortly’. Just after 4.30 today I get an email saying they are refunding due to lack of stock and that I would need to wait 5-10 days for a refund. I have filed a PayPal chargeback.
