It's a dark day indeed when Blackpool Pleasure Beach is being recommended over Alton Towers because AT is the one that's run down...

We did this the other week and you can buy another child (5-14) ticket for an extra £5 at the same time

It's a -little- bit funny. Mostly because that practically breaks down every day so they should've expected this to happen.

Also, does anyone know if you buy it online today whether you can use it tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) or do they need a few days to process it?

Do you walk straight through with a pass? I remember buying tickets for Legoland - you queue to pick up the tickets and that can take an hour. I assume Alton Towers can be the same?

Fact- you employ a kid fair enough, but what happens when something goes … Fact- you employ a kid fair enough, but what happens when something goes wrong? that poor kid ain gonna know what to do. hes going to panic whereas a mature adult who has had more experience in life will have a better judgement call and thats the kind of thing that's needed for jobs such as these. there's a lot more responsibility involved in this rather than say handing out burgers.and this all comes back to my laid back comment. have a look into how long it took them to call the emergency services. if proper training was provided and protocols put in place then it wouldnt have taken so long for them to pull there finger out.oh and i drive because i have to. i don't drive for fun so do you see the difference?

With respect, you're quoting news reports so you don't REALLY know what you're talking about (and neither do I!!). However, as far as I'm aware AT have their own onsite emergency crews, PERHAPS they weren't aware of just how serious things were on that ONE occasion? From what I saw, even the external emergency crews had access issues, they might have simply not realised it was as bad as it was hence delaying the call. Regardless, you have a report of two trains colliding, it wasn't high speed, so they probably expected a bit of whiplash at worst, so they might have assumed that their teams could cope. Perhaps they then struggled to gain access, and eventually discovered the true extent and called in a full emergency?

Now, like your comment, this is pure speculation, but surely you don't believe that AT would want this to happen? Even the "kids" operating the machines wouldn't want things like this to happen, I'm sure that they would have reacted differently if they had known from the start?

My main issue is that people are effectively trying to shut down AT with no reason. I thought that their safety record was quite good? This was an isolated issue on a ride which is probably just too ambitious and probably should be taken down? I read a report about the "dangerous smiler strikes again" yesterday, apparently people were "in fear of their lives", turns out someone just held the safety restraint down when the train returned to the station so it didn't release and the system (rightly) reported a fault..... oO

If people choose not to visit again because of that, it is their choice. … If people choose not to visit again because of that, it is their choice. How can you say I do not accept that? The original comment did not elaborate to the reason for it being 'mad' to post the deal.

where do i say you dont accept that?
i say its very obvious that it would happen so no need to elaborate on any reason or get made about it

Not seen one, though with Scarefest being on, in previous years they have reduced prices for October at the last minute. No guarantee this year, although it does definitely seem that booking early is not always beneficial.

Yes there is one available for tonight, a shame it was too late! Yes, I totally agree re: safety.

We went today using Free Sun tickets and Clubcard vouchers and were given tickets to come back any time before November.

Why expired? They're still handing out the free tickets today

Also - you get a free ticket even if you're an annual pass holder. Worth dropping by if you're in the area...

I'm sure there is a high Excess Fee in an accident of this nature. So they Will Pay.

It's not human error to not call the emergency services. It's … It's not human error to not call the emergency services. It's incompetence, or poor training. Both of which are the responsibility of the company. An intentional plane crash cannot be compared to an unintentional theme park crash, unless you're a bit simple.

The emergency services were called,we do not know if it was error by the staff to why it took 11 minutes as it could well be there is a list of things to do/check before a call is made,

IF it was caused by human error I can't see how directly the company can be at fault if it's proven that adequate training has been given to that member of staff, the fault then falls at the feet of the individual that was not doing their job,and no amount of training can make someone do their job correctly if they decide they don't want to do it correctly.

I don't think there is any need to suggest that I'm simple because of the comparison I made. The point I was making about the pilot was that even with all their training a company can't stop members of staff not doing their job as they have been trained,be it ditching a plane or not paying attention on what a roller coaster is doing.

Why is everyone making such a massive deal over what's happened, nobody … Why is everyone making such a massive deal over what's happened, nobody has actually been killed.Yes it's not good for the poor sods who were hurt but the fact is accidents happen no matter how much money is spent, technology fails to do what it's meant to,that's life and the risk that everyone takes. Also humans make mistakes,I wonder how many people have died over the years traveling to Alton towers in a car due to a mechanical failure or human error ? If what had happened had happend in a car it wouldn't have even made the news anywhere, and it makes me laugh how every man and his dog that knows anyone who was on that ride that day is now coming out the woodwork to wish them well, but that's only because they are hoping there tweet or Facebook message will be made public in the press. As for the free tickets,if they didn't give anything away people would probably moan that it's wrong they ain't doing anything to say sorry to people.I will certainly be going back to Alton towers as I'm cleaver enough to understand that there is a risk with everything I do and I've got more to worry about walking along the pavement than I have going to a theme park.
