Would this be suitable for removing a tree stump?

Just wait till Aldi or Lidl get them in, they will probably still be less than £10 (edited)

I have just had new carpet fitted but the front door is dragging on the carpet.
I only need 10mm max taken off the bottom of the door. Will this work?
    I'm am rubbish at D.I.Y.

I suspect not, cutting a dead straight and dead vertical with a handsaw takes a bit of skill. Your best bet would be trying to borrow a circular saw, preferably with a rail to get a straight cut.

Alternatively you could take it to a B&Q if you've got one local and ask them to do it if you know how much to take off, think they only charge about £1.50 per cut
