Knockdhu renamed their whiskies anCnoc to avoid confusion with the nearby Knockando distillery. This 12 year old exhibits a gentle, non-sherried style of whisky.

anCnoc 12 years old is renowned the world over. Known as a must have in any whisky drinkers collection, it’s light and yet complex, smooth yet challenging with each twist and turn delivering a surprise. In fact, this is a dram that has something for everyone.

  • Maturation: Matured in a carefully selected combination of second fill American oak, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
  • Colour: Gentle amber with a slight yellow hue.
  • Nose: Very soft and aromatic with a hint of honey and lemon in the foreground.
  • Taste: Sweet to start with an appetising fruitiness and a long smooth finish. Light yet complex, and smooth yet challenging, this is a dram that has something for everyone.
  • 2015 Silver Medal Winner - International Wine & Spirits Competition

The Knockdhu Distillery is situated in the picturesque village of Knock in Aberdeenshire, in the north east corner of Scotland.

anCnoc is a rather curious whisky. You see, this fine single malt is created using traditional production methods. It’s just that we use them to make a refreshingly modern whisky.

anCnoc is a malt whisky with a mind of its own. Even the name (pronounced ‘a nock’), defies convention as it’s Gaelic for the nearby Knock Hill. (This is unusual, as most whiskies are named after the distillery). Whilst the name of the distillery, ‘Knockdhu’, comes from the Gaelic ‘Cnoc Dubh’ meaning ‘black hill’.

The story of the Knockdhu Distillery starts with a man of vision (who also had an eye for a good investment). In 1892 an enterprising chap named John Morrison bought the Knock estate. The surrounding land was full of peat and barley and the Great North Railway line ran nearby. So when springs of pure, clear water were found, John saw a golden opportunity.

Knockdhu opened its doors in October 1894. Back then it was regarded as the perfect embodiment of a modern distillery. So it’s perhaps no surprise that we still produce a light, intriguing and thoroughly modern whisky to this day.

The Distillery, although on the border of Speyside, is a Highland whisky, a fact that perhaps delivers a surprise when tasting anCnoc.

anCnoc has a typical soft, floral Speyside nose, however the taste is sweet with honey and lemon – much bigger and more complex, in keeping with a Highland style. Distillery Manager, Gordon Bruce and his team (‘The Men of Knock’), are well known locally, and renowned worldwide for their relentless pursuit of perfection.
