Where is this one standing comparison to wiim pro plus?

As has been mentioned the Arcam Solo Uno Streamer has a built-in amplifier, whilst the wiimamp pro plus is just a streamer, so in many ways the Wiim Amp streamer would be a better comparison.

Now, I cannot say I have heard either but from going from reviews of the Wiim Amp the Wiim app is going to be far superior to the Arcams Musiclife app. Most reviews of the musiclife app are very negative, but these mainly go back to 2019/2020. I have the Arcam CDS50, which uses Musiclife and the app is stable now, and Arcam have added Tidal connect and Spotify connect through the app. It should also be possible to use mconnect app with the Solo Uno (though I have not tried).

I wouldn't say the Solo Uno is a powerhouse of a amp with 25 watts per channel at 8om, compared to 60 watts at 8om with the Wiim Amp. That being said. the Solo Uno should be OK with an average set of speaker.

I did look to see what dac the Arcam uses in the Solo uno and I couldn't see anythng. If I had to guess I would say it is the ESS Technology ESS9038Q2M, which is pretty standard for Arcam, with the CDS50, SA30 and ST60. If this is the case, then I would expect the Arcam to sound pretty good and very neutral, but a lot is down to how it is implemented into the system.

Unfortunately, when it comes to sound it is complete guess work, though I do have experience with Arcam products and I wouldn't expect a dramatic difference in sound.

If I was just looking for a steamer I would not go with the Arcam. Wiim has very good reviews and whilst it isn't perfect, I think the app is going to be better. The Arcam is going to be well build, and I think it looks pretty nice, and the price is pretty good, but it does have limitations.

bad reviews of the musiclife app required to control this rendering this almost unusable

I have one of these and like you say the musiclife app needed to control it is totally useless.
The only way I can get it to work is with Google by Chromecasting to it.
But doing it this way you don't get the benefit of hi Def sound.

For anyone who owns this unit, can you cast via AirPlay without having to use the Musiclife app?

I don't own the Solo Uno, but with the Arcam CDS50 you can use mconnect, and BubbleUPnP (which I don't particularly like). Through mconnect (and musiclife app) you can use Tidal connect and Spotify connect. A lot of the stability issues with musiclife app have been fixed. It still isn't my favourite app but I do find that it works.

Without a good controlling app, is a waste of money !

Pretty good if you use Roon though, as this is Roon Ready.

Musiclife was recently updated so Is compatible with modern Android.

It works pretty much flawlessly on my SA30 Arcam amp. Does Tidal connect, radio streaming, can stream audible / podcasts.

I like having the album art etc on the screen in front of my eyes not in the streamer, which is why I bought SA30, it looks like an old school amp which I like.

The Chinese based brands are now very good with excellent features. British brands struggling to sell at their prices. Take Cambridge audio cxn100 new streamer. Alot more expensive than a eversolo DMP-A6. But hey you get guarantee and excellent workmanship people should decide but the competition is great for us. I still believe in separates for everything you can get great DAC, amp and Wiim pro separately however not at this price. Amd over its lifetime update each component.

This thread at least let me discover the Wiim Pro range. Looks like a good replacement for a CC audio that I presently have connected to my stack.

Better of getting a WIIM streamer. I have the Wiim mini currently and it's excellent. Finally moved on from the Logitech touch.

What do like about the WIIM over the Touch? Just interested to know for future refernce.

I've not used one of these but if it has Chromecast built in then I assume it could be used with LMS with chromecast bridge installed? I've done it with a CCA and it worked but no idea if this would differ.
