Car Bluetooth and Amazon music

EDIT: I realise now it just happens in general use too. Doesn’t have anything to do with the Bluetooth part.

Years ago I added a Bluetooth add on thing to my car stereo.
Randomly the other day the volume was at a low level and no matter whether I turned the volume up or down on my phone the music stays at the same level coming out of the stereo. I can turn it up and down on the stereo but it doesn’t reach the levels it should and lacks depth. I checked a few different settings, couldn’t see anything obvious to me. The next day when in the car everything was fine, volume all returned to normal. The day after it returned to the low volume levels. I didn’t change any settings in between these days.

Volume levels have been fine the whole time I use other apps, sound cloud, YouTube etc.

Any thoughts?

I’ve updated the music app a few times since this has been happening.

Some apps have an effect on a sound level. I play a game which, despite me turning off sound options, will lower the level of Tidal and others, losing almost 30% of the volume.
Perhaps kill off every app, and only have the necessary ones open
