EDIT: people using mobile site are saying they can't see price- its 149.99
This is IMHO the best deal out there atm for a 10" Android Tablet- dual core processor (similar architecture to Galaxy Nexus) this is the Turbo version so 1gb RAM and comes with ICS and full Google Play certification out of the box, micro SDHC, mini HDMI, flush fitting in back to fit optional 3G dongle (around 30-40 pounds on Amazon) if you wish to make it 3G.
Getting it from HMV means hassle free to return in unlikely event of problems compared to buying it from Ebay, chinese sellers on Amazon etc.
This archos is great as media player- kickstand, and much bigger than normal codec support.

sorted byThey say it takes 3 days from ordering??!!
Not got one but I'm interested...
The one you have ordered and have put the short cut to, looks an excellent bit of kit. Better than any I have seen so far.
Was it in stock when you ordered it or Pre-order for 18th Oct? I's love to know your opinion of it, or anyone else who has one.
Have an Archos in the house, not a massive fan of the quality and had to fiddle around to get the play store working on it - I know this has it inbuilt but I wonder what other daft decisions they've made.
Agree it is 'branded' but I don't see that this brand counts for a lot.
Would have loved a Nexus 10" however sadly they don't exist yet!

Helpful...thanks.
p.s. my deal was from ballicom and is on here for £25 more with the extra 8gb. So this looks hot to me.

I can't decide between this or waiting for the Xoom to be a similar price again. How do people rate this against the Xoom?

Would never touch archos products again.
Archos keep sending me replacements and after a few months I send them back.
Got myself a Motorola Xoom, (original model) and its miles better. Same / similar spec, excellent quality and gets all the updates for android now that Google bought Motorola.
I'd recommend getting cheaper basic tablets, or pay a little more and get a decent tablet like a Xoom or samsung tab
I mainly use it for movies so lets analyse that:
- inbuilt movie player with loads of codecs(apparently you can buy all codecs on archos website for £7) - orrr you can just download the VLC player from app store - that thing will play anything.
- USB Port
- Micro SD slot
- Mini HDMI port (buy a mini HDMI to Full HDMI cable for about £1.50 from amazon) - The video conversion is great onto your HDMI cable
Nexus/Ipad/others done usualy come with the whole array of things mentioned above.
I have had no issues with my Archos - had it for one month, nice big screem no black space when watching movies.
Internet browsing is good
You can tether from phones - and have 3g/wifi
not sure whatelse to right here but hope it helps.
one downside if its considered that - takes a while to charge fully again after you have used it
- Battery lasts a long time about 9 hours or movie viewing time.
- to charge battery faster just close down all applications and turn off all the wfi/usb etc and it will charge up faster, not tried watching a movie and charging at the same time so cant comment on how that works.
to be fair if you leave it on charge over night then its not so much of a pain.
Just seen a you tube video, lasted 6hr 27mins playing a video on constant loop with brightness and sound at 50%
Very impressive! for a 10" tab.
I was worried that I'd ordered this but the more I watch the videos on you tube the more I can't wait to pick it up from HMV!!!
If it's anything like the previous Archos I bought that's an unlock for their media player. You can just download Mobo Player or MX Player and they will play those files straight off the bat normally.
I can offer some quick first impressions. It doesn't have that 'premium' feel that the big brand names have. At 50% brightness which is default the screen seems fine for watching video. I've had a quick look at some 'HD' clips on Youtube and they play fine and the onboard speaker did fine. I tried watching the iPlayer and although the picture was fine the audio sounded terrible, crackling and popping. I've not a clue what was causing it but using the 3.5mm jack with earphones the audio for the iPlayer was fine. I'm tempted to say it's a software problem but I'm not sure.
Had a quick play with Google Earth and I've nothing to compare it to but it was smooth and seemed to be the full experience that one might get with a more expensive tablet.
Antutu gave it 3930 for CPU and 1543 for GPU and a grand total of 7623. I've not checked to see how this stacks up against other tablets but I've a vague idea it's good.
As someone in a previous post said the media player it comes with doesn't have some codecs. So far I've discovered through personal experience it doesn't have the ac3 audio codec but Dice Player from the market will place the video in question that the Archos media player won't without playing for any codecs.
At the moment I'm happy with it. A major plus that hasn't been mentioned here is that it charges via micro USB so no need to carry a specific charger for it, I can use my phone one.

Thanks rejector1 ! Brilliant spot!
It clearly says £149.99 in bold at the top.
My bad.
That's only for CDs
Does anyone know which OMAP processor is inside? is it 4430 over clocked or is it 4470? This should perform better than the Kindle FireHD if it is indeed a 4470 because it's not got all the bloat between the OS and the User I would guess...and would give even the NExus a run for it's money...plus 10" and MicroSD.
The review says 4460...hmmm...this should be more powerful than the Nexus in some areas then, plus 10", and the ability to get an addon if you want 3G. Really tempted.
(edited)
And it's the OMAP 4460: 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 (2 x Cortex A9, PowerVR SGX540)
Also, does this have a port for headphones?
(edited)
Was looking at Nexus but wanted 10" screen.
Yes it does have a port for headphones, and built in speakers. The only thing I've seen cheaper this size is a 129 sumvision one at ebuyer but thats an online supplier, no name make, no optional 3g neat solution and only single core.
Great thanks. Yeah i was previously looking at the Sumvision 7" tablet on eBuyer for £75. Think i'm going to going to go for this Archos deal.
