I do regret getting this system, Arlo offering a very expensive product for a very mediocre performance.

My current doorbell is connected to the router, as when it was connected to the SmartHub, it offered a very very poor performance.

Arlo offers frequent firmware updates that break more things than they fix, effectively using you as the user as a tester.

Constant problems with the app. Very limiting service (access to local storage only by one user, and if you want to connect the doorbell to WiFi, you can't use local storage!).

    Very expensive.

Difficult to customise and manage (no possibility of changing WiFi channels; having to have the 5GHz WiFi on on the SmartHub even though the doorbell and ultra use 2.4GHz, effectively not using the 5GHz band, it instead adding to network congestion, as it always broadcasts on the same channel as your router!)

Following the release of faulty firmware (not the first time! Read their forum!), my cameras now somewhat reversed back to firmware that was released back in 2021, and there's no way to update it manually, even though that option seems to be available in the app, and there's no way to manually update firmware by uploading it because firmware files are not available for download. Basically, they just control and limit everything.

The video files that are recorded by cameras are heavily compressed because the cloud storage is the sticking point for this company. So, even though you have a 4k camera, the cloud storage at £110-150 per year has videos of very shocking quality for 4k, with not much detail being present and all washed out.

Not to mention their EOL policy and a recent email restricting the amount of storage you can use, effectively restricting the whole system yet again.

Constantly having to reset things and waste more time to set up, delete, reset, test etc., like recently when my local storage was damaged after their most recent firmware update, only to find out it's Arlo's problem, not your own set up.

I have nothing good to say about Arlo, I'm afraid.

When it was Netgear - and I'm a long term user of Arlo, starting with Arlo HD - it was much better. Now, it's seriously overpriced junk. I mean, even their newest doorbells don't even offer local storage yet because it's not been implemented, even though the product is available for purchase, and Pro 5 can be bought in Europe, but can't be used there because there's no support for it in the app. It's crazy!

Look at their reviews online on Trustedreviews, as they even stopped Google from enabling customers to post reviews about them.

Arlo is run by clowns, and all that their offer is shockingly poor (I had just about everything replaced by them as part of the warranty, even my solar panel that ended up cracking in the sun!). They want to be perceived as the next Apple, but have a very long way to reach that level.

Good price, though, for the battery. (edited)

I have 4 Ultra-2 camera's, the doorbell, a chime, solar panel and base station. I went all in at once so I could get the thing set up and fitted in one go. I agree with most of what you say. It is a very poor system considering the money it costs.
Additionally, if I want to mount my cameras outside, they don't reach the base station or are very jittery, and I'm reluctant to buy a further base station to extend the Arlo network. If I could return them I would, but I waited too long to fit them. I bought the subscription to give them a go for a year and then will replace, but so far I'm still just completely frustrated with it and how unreliable it is, so will not renew.
