Thanks, thatis really helpful. I have had my eye on the ProHeat x2. I will keep in mind what you have said above. I am not in a rush as had been thinking of doing it in the summer months when hopefully the carpet would dry faster.

Our Bissell from early 2000's ( I think my parents got it around 2005) still works reasonably well. Mostly use it perhaps once every year on the car.

I'm not sure if this is normal with all carpet washers, but I noticed after using a carpet cleaner, the carpet became flat and lot it's 'bounce'.

The carpet pile is flat because after cleaning you didn't reset the nap. That's not your fault you're not trained to clean carpets, but pulling a machine back over the pile will pull the pile back one way, once that dries that then leaves the pile flat. Resetting the nap, which can be done with even just a brush not only prevents that happening it also improves drying time as the nap " pile " can air. (edited)

This is a poorly made washer and the rubber belt on the brush stretches as it is under too much tension.

But never mind, when you phone Bissell and complain about the belt after one use they will tell you that it is a 'consummable item, not covered under warranty but we can sell you a replacement for £15 plus £4.95 pandp.

Used to be a great brand with solid machines.

I bought a Bissel carpet cleaner a few years ago, got just 2 washes out of it before the hot water nozzles blocked up

We got one of their proheat models years ago, and I had read in reviews that the heater block can clog with detergent residue, so I put warm water in its tank when I've finished the carpets and run it over vinyl flooring to flush the carpet solution out of the heater, tubes and nozzles. The water sucked back up off the vinyl flooring also helps to clean out some of the carpet fluff. (edited)

Cheaper to pay £70 for the whole house done

If you're having your carpets cleaned in the entire house for £70 you're not having them professionally cleaned. Any reputable business will be charging that for just two rooms whether they're based up north or down south.
