Does this use Ink or Toner? or both? Is it always connecting to remote servers and transmitting unknown data? How cheap/expensive are the ink/cartridges if not using their service?

I am looking for a cheapish decent quality printer but do not print anywhere near enough for a monthly subscription.

Anyone completed the registration for cashback?

i've tried to follow the process but didnt complete the final(third) page as it required signing up to a cartridge plan.

My printer shows as a device in my account but i havent had any confirmation email of my registration and i cant follow the claim process again as it says my serial number is already registered.

I'm a little nervous theyre going to argue that taking a toner plan is part of the T&Cs for the cashback.

edit 13/2 i received my cashback no problem after 8 days. i had also spoken to Brother customer services by email to check they received my claim and they confirmed that had. that was a reply on next working day. all gone smoothly. (edited)

Not yet. I was thinking of taking the subscription and cancel it before the free trial runs out.........

Are you sure the free trial cannot be cancelled easily?
It is monthly renewal so not a yearly contract

Totally agree as I bought this one and returned it after reading about the subscription.

Now I'm in the same boat as you looking for a printer that doesn't offer a subscription service and where I'm not going to get bombarded with ads asking me to sign up.

I'm happy to pay more on the initial outlay to avoid any subscription services. (edited)

EcoPro model - it is disappointing to see Brother go down the route of subscription-based printing like HP's Instant Ink. Brother were the printers that just worked, ran for years and could use compatible third-party toners without issue. Guess that's not profitable these days and subscriptions are.

What does that mean? You can’t use any kind of ink?

Hmmm, wondering what's the difference to the Brother HL-L2400DW posted at £83 on Amazon which I've just bought.

Can't be doing with printer supplies subscription. Maybe that's the only difference? That this reports back usage?

Hot! Pop up window suggesting 10% off for 1st order. Plus £20 cashback. And possibly another aprox £2 via TCB.
This seems like a bargain. I don't think it comes with a toner, and I don't like subscriptions. Got the HL1210W model from Viking for £72, as I prefer a more compact form factor. (edited)

Cashback landed in my account today, 6 days after I registered it. Can confirm you don't need to sign up to ecopro to get the cashback, you can use it totally subscription free.

How did you sort it? I registered it last night but haven't had anything come through? Do you need to enter a promo code or anything?

Can anyone help me out on if this printer can handle 300gsm card please ?

Really happy with this printer. Got 10% off via BLC and received the cash back today. In total I paid just over £60.

    Subscription is not needed.
