info added by
Each Certified Refurbished Steam Deck has been thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units. Every device goes through a complete factory reset, software update, and an extensive examination involving over 100 tests at one of Valve's facilities. Among the tests are all controller inputs, the audio system, the screen, and internals. Battery health is also assessed to ensure proper functionality and longevity.
All refurbished units meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units. Although they may have minor cosmetic blemishes, they provide a reliable, high-quality gaming experience at a lower cost.
All Certified Refurbished Steam Decks include:
The same one year warranty as a new Steam Deck (unless longer as determined by your country of residence)
A refurbished power supply - fully tested (may have minor cosmetic marks)
Carrying case and Quick Start guide
Portability meets power
We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.
Your Steam Library, anywhere
Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.
Control with comfort
The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

If you're technically inclined and like to dabble in emulators, or anything linux flavoured, then that's another reason to buy.
I wouldn't buy it for a kid as the user experience isn't really smooth enough for casuals.
Nor would I buy it as a desktop replacement as the performance will be disappointing. (edited)
256gb used from cex £13 delivered £10 collected uk.webuy.com/pro…56g (edited)
I've compromised and play less demanding games when travelling (with 65w battery pack for extra juice).
And I'll play more demanding games when in hotel rooms or at home etc.
Out of stock … was in basket. A sign from the gaming gods it wasn’t meant to be… (edited)
You can't run it natively in Linux (or SteamOS)
Your options are therefore to install windows on the steam deck (probably dual boot), or to stream it.
Ideally avoid putting windows on the steam deck - Steam OS gives a much nicer, more console-like experience.
Your best option is therefore to stream fortnite - XBox cloud gaming allows you to stream fortnite with a free account, so you can do that with no additional cost. See How to play Fortnite on Steam Deck - Dexerto
I can only really get on my Xbox a couple of times a week, so hoping to use a handheld for lunch breaks, etc. and bring my gaming time up a little.
Do i need one....NO
Did i buy one....YES
now whats the best SSD to buy for it?.......lets say 1TB (edited)
Am I broke..........YES
but as the hardware compared to the switch this is way more powerful, but the battery isnt great, two three hours tops on a demanding game.
I bought a BT controller for my fold 4, I haven't even opened that for any gaming on the phone.
The deck has been my most used device this year.
