For those that don't drive or don't want the hassel of driving to Holyhead you can get a SailRail ticket between any rail station in Britain & any rail station in Ireland, train & ferry on one ticket for cheap - best source of info I know is here -

Good Idea. If you live anywhere East of Birmingham or North of Chester, the journey to Holyhead could take hours. Possibly longer than the ferry crossing.

Just avoid temple bar. Its a tourist trap. An overpriced mediocre pint

No self respecting Irish person goes near Temple Bar..... a rotten tourist trap.

Also, the travelodge hotel is over the road and offering discounted rooms. I’ve got a family room for £65 for a Friday and Saturday night so we can do this trip on a Saturday.

Did this a few years ago, car park at the port which from memory is not cheap in-fact by the we arrived in Dublin it had already cost at least double the fare in car parking and transfers, Dublin is very expensive

Beautiful city - lovely people - awful sea crossing.

Yeh, with a Force 8 in the Irish Sea you'll be shaken rather than well stirred, and you'll have a good chance of puking on the blarney stone instead of kissing it (edited)

Sorry to ask a stupid question but is there anything stopping you not getting on the return ferry and booking another Day Trip Special for the reverse route the next day (and then obviously not getting on that return either) as it seems a much cheaper way of doing it than via the standard econ/flexi route?

How strict are the customs? Will the duty free sell you over your allowance like the airports?

You're gonna spend less getting there then having a pint
Great city thought went last year unfortunately the Prison tour was booked out but it's meant to be good if you can get in.

They typically hold back tickets for the day before on the Kilmainham Gaol tour. I was in Dublin in September and was disappointed to see it sold out for my dates when I checked mid August. I checked again the day before and there were a reasonable number of tickets available for tours throughout the day. It seemed to be more than cancellations, probably a late check on the availability of extra tour guides before squeezing in extra groups of 20.

Is this offer available from Dublin port to holyhead for the same price

If you upgrade on-board to the premium lounge (forget the name) there's a free bar (wine only) and the usual crisps/brownies/soft&hot drinks. Bring your own vibe though mostly its snoozing lorry drivers. It's about £25 each way, I'd say decent value.

Also you can book (via thetrainline.com) connecting rail tickets in the UK, I have not checked every location but no matter where you start (e.g London or Glasgow) it always seems to be £40-50 ew which is a good price if you don't mind slow-poking it to Holyhead

It's from terminal 5 but I think you get a free stena bus to there after you've checked in.

I haven't been to Dublin in years, if you are staying overnight there it seems incredibly expensive nowadays... This guy found the cheapest bed in a hostel was €75...so a quick day trip may be the way to go...

Alot of hotels are full of refugees meaning there is a huge shortage of rooms for tourists and the prices are extortionate.
