A point that people often overlook on laptops is that overkill on specs is a good thing. This is a great example.

Yes, that card is way overpowered for 1080p....but an overspecced laptop never works that hard, which means temps are lower, fans are quieter and you end up with a nicer experience.

For me, whenever I get a laptop for gaming, I always get one with a CPU and GPU which is the next model or two up from what I actually need. It's not for the extra fps or resolution, it's so that when I run at decent settings the damm thing is not working hard so it's cool.

Nothing worse than a laptop running at max settings - burns your lap, hurts your ears. Always overspec. Take something like this and cap your fps and it'll be super cool and super quiet. Personally I pay the premium for that coolness rather than to get higher fps / resolution, it's a nicer mobile experience. (edited)

I nearly bought this with a Bluelight discount which was far less than the Daily Mail code here which makes this price a knockout.

How does this compare too, currently coming in at £1445 after the 15% off for the weekend? 4070, better screen, and better CPU as far as I’m aware?

The 4070 is the level of the 3070Ti. The 3080Ti with 16GB of vRam will be ~8% better. The higher the resolution we set or the game requires more vRam, the advantage will be of course higher. However, this is nothing compared to the fact that the 3080Ti is still AT LEAST 26% weaker than the 4080. Its 28% in 1080p, 30% in 1440p, 26.6% in 4K. Unfortunately, the 4050/4060/4070 graphics cards were built with cryptocurrencies in mind, and when the industry hit rock bottom, NVIDIA tried to bail itself out with Frame Generation and DLSS3. If someone really wants to play freely for at least five years on maximum settings, they should aim for a 4080 with 12GB vRam, but the prices are ridiculous.

Comparative tests can be found below.

Oh God, such a good price but this FHD with 3080 Ti 16GB is just unacceptable. Who came up with that idea

No wonder it's on deal. 1080p in 2023 isn't even smartphone resolution, not smart at all

Good price tbf considering. If anyone is on Amex on offers have £100 off £750 spend so think that would apply to this also?

Looking for something like this, gaming spec but ideally a 17inch screen. Any ideas on a good deal?

Acer have got 15% off this weekend, not sure how good they all are. But could be worth a look.

Being a Dell i bet 3080 Ti gets very hot.

Is it a full watt 3080 Ti if so it will throttle badly in a Dell laptop.

And whats the performance like compared with a RTX 4080 M and a 4070 desktop card which will the most likely be the version used for the 4070 Ti M . (edited)

This seems like an awful lot for the screen, RAM, and generation of GPU.
    ThatsNotWorthIt's avatar
Hahah you forgot about the CPU

Seems decent value, 1080p is better for a 15.6" laptop, don't fall into the trap to buy 4K, you don't need it at this size of screen, the lifetime of your laptop will be diminished as it will have to run hotter. (edited)
    Ben10's avatar
You need 4K if you plug it into a monitor and most people will do that
