It looks good specs for the price. Not sure about the quality of the display, TN?
    _Titan_Warrior_X's avatar
Poor, TN. it's Dell's WVA - Wide Viewing Angle. It's in all their models below circa £800 or so. Sent mine back immediately. Better go for Asus or Lenovo for £350 or £400, with guaranteed IPS 300 nits and same spec machine. (edited)

2x 4GB ram I see. What would be a sensible ram upgrade for this?

2 x 8gb SODIMM DDR4 3200mhz will be absolutely fine unless you're in a rare use-case of desperately needing a cheap machine but are doing something high end like multi-stem audio production with loads of plugins or demanding video editing, in which case you would want 32gb (or more, but that's probably a pointless comparison because a 64gb+ kit is very very expensive).

Crucial has a website where you can find the right RAM for your system: uk.crucial.com/upg…ook (edited)

4% cashback via QuidCo. Doesn't sound like a lot but 4% of 350 i believe is just over a tenner. Every little helps! (edited)

£349 used to be considered one step up from entry level.
This spec will be plenty for the vast majority of users. Have some heat chap

My best overall pick is a 5500U or 5700U Ryzen, but that is usually a bit of extra money.

Seems like a good laptop for my work any chance anyone can put a YouTube video of upgrading ram / SSD please

The hinge will break in under a year. Useless.
    sayl100's avatar
I'm typing this comment from the same type of machine, an Inspiron, albeit with a Ryzen processor, no issues with the hinges, and I close and open the laptop many times a day. The only downside I can see with this deal is the processor wattage:
Typical TDP: 35 W. This laptop will probably run quite hot.

Just in case anyone is interested:

Power Button - Titan Grey with
    Fingerprint Reader

Also regarding the TDP, I belive you can lower the 35w down in the Bios to change the CPU from 3.2Ghz ~ 2.5Ghz.
This should solve many cooling issues & fans running at max!

The ryzen 7 3700u laptops definitely not worth £400. Ryzen 5 3500u one is also not worth £300 as its a 3000 model so lower build quality and a 3 generation old processor. Better off with a 12th gen i3 or even the Ryzen 3 5th gen for around the same price. Neither compare to the i5 deal though (edited)

If you don't mind refurbished this might be a better deal:

    It's about the same price

The screens on these laptops are quite poor.
Very low brightness and a lot of light bleed.

Just a bit of advice to anyone thinking of buying a Dell laptop.
I've only owned one Dell laptop and this will be my last. dell.com/ae/…/pd
Poor chassis design, the fan on mine is situated in the rear central area and got warped by flexing and contact from the flimsy casing when held in that area.
If you ever hear a screeching sound from yours, you'll know you have the same issue and you'll need a replacement fan, luckily i found one with the same dimensions (as not all fans fit) for £12 on ebay and easily replaced it myself.
I had another issue with the keyboard which was my fault due to spillage, but i thought i'd be able to just replace the keyboard but it seems like Dell have deliberately made the keyboard highly inaccessible and riveted it down to make replacing by the customer almost impossible, so i just bought an RGB keyboard for £16 from currys and use it with that.
Oh and i agree on the poor screen as others have mentioned. (edited)
    MrJuice's avatar
so these wva screens are just tn with a fancy dell term?

Hi, how does this compare to a recent post. Can anyone advise please?

Processor wise, I'm looking to do some video editing. I believe both laptops can be upgraded (RAM and HDD)

Dell has a better processor. Acer has a better screen. Acer is 14” and dell is 15.6”. (edited)
  16. alared's avatar
Having read a few reviews and owners remarks online, there seems to be an overheating issue with this Dell 5510, even when used lightly.
The fan blows the hot air from the bottom up the screen.
When you lift the lid, the bottom of the laptop curls under so the laptop is sitting on it`s hinges.
Also I think the SSD is too small.
I won`t be buying even at this price.

Would never buy from dell again.
My laptop got a hot pixel after only a couple of months. Dell refused to exchange for a new one but offered me a refurbished lappy. After thrashing it out I agreed to take the refurbished unit.
So sent mine back and somewhere between dell and the service center my laptop disappeared for nearly 6 weeks.
On the phone again to dell who said they can't send out replacement until old unit reaches them. My tracking showed they had it in the depot massive row on the phone until big boss finally sorted they agreed that they have my old one and will send out replacement. 2 days later tap on the door dell delivery. Opens box it was my old laptop with the same burnt pixel.
I was furious and thought I can't be bothered I'll deal with the screen.
Well bugger me next day tap on the door with its replacement. Dell to this day have never asked for the old one. (edited)
    alared's avatar
So you got 2 for the price of 1 and will never buy Dell again?

    Silly putting 2 x 4gb ram in.

Now you need to buy 2 x 8gb

Once again perfect spec but spoilt with the huge 15.6 screen size!!! It's meant to be a laptop not a house!!!

    Too heavy?
  27. Karze's avatar
I'm really contemplating this great deal as the laptop has a serious beefy processor running at 3.2Ghz (continuos?!), but does anybody know if bad cooling & fans on max would become a constant issue??
    James.Howlett's avatar
I have this one dell.com/ae/…/pd and the fan is almost always on
I've mentioned all the other issues in previous comment.

**HDMI 1.4 (Maximum resolution supported over HDMI is 1920x1080 @60Hz. No 4K/2K output)

That's a bit of a shame. But type C negates some of that headache unless you have multiple monitors etc.

I have a similar business laptop and they're decent enough but the batteries are not the best.
    sayl100's avatar
On a dell Inspiron the usb C does not have video out, on my Inspiron 5505 I've tried to use a usb C to HDM dongle but there was no video out.

I'm really tempted, looks like great spec for an awesome price. My only issue is ever since I've atarted using my work lenovo laptop with a USB c charging port and also bought a Samsung chromebook with USB c charging, I can't go back to those proprietary barrel charging ports. I just can't, #firstworldproblems

Tried changing the ram via the Inspiron 15 main page, it auto upgrades the processor + ssd at the same time taking it to 699. Probably cheaper to replace the ram after buying
