I bought this last week at about this price.

I ordered the 8gb ram variant but they actually sent me one with 16gb ram for no extra cost for some reason.

On very close inspection, there were a couple of tiny scratches to the body of the laptop but it looks and feels brand new during day to day use. Haven't used it enough to conclude on battery life but it seems great. A great refurb.

The quality of the touch screen (mine looks brand new) and keyboard is great. The webcam has facial recognition and a fingerprint scanner to allow signing in with your face or fingerprint. (edited)

    Can this run Win11?

Yes 8th gen and above is officially supported. For anything less, you could use Rufus rufus.ie/en/ to write the Windows .ISO to USB with bypassing TPM option selected and then install Windows.

Anyway this laptop supports Windows 11 so you can upgrade. Windows 10 is officially supported until 14th October 2025. So another 17 months or so.

1 ram slot. with 2 the igpu would be 20% better and the cpu up to 10% better.

This isn't accurate. It has one soldered module and one slot for a SODIMM and the matching capacity runs in dual channel mode. If you opt for an asymmetrical RAM capacity then the surplus will run in single channel but only once the dual channel capacity is filled.
So if this configuration comes with 8GB soldered you can drop in an 8GB module and you're running 16GB dual channel with no compromise in performance.

EDIT: as pointed out, this model doesn't have a soldered module, so my advice is only true of models with a soldered and slot module. (edited)

They have a 7th gen i5 version of this too. 16gb of Ram and 256gb ssd for £127.99 after voucher. I bought it for my daughter.

It's not worth cutting back to the 7th gen i5 for a small saving as it's got half the physical cores so much slower in general use (especially threaded), as well as no official Windows 11 support.

hey guys im looking for a laptop for my daughter, shes about to start GCSEs, is this suitable for her later years of high school and college, or can someone recommend something else ? need something durable, reliable, and something i wont need to change for a few years that could serve her well into school college years. Any advice would be appreciated !

This is more than enough for any school or university need and with windows 11 it will be supported for many years. It's absolutely irrelevant that the CPU is not the latest for that use. The only application you should eventually be concerned about the performance of a budget laptop are those graphic intensive ones such as gaming and video editing, but if your daughters doesn't need that this is perfect

Interested but would be worried about battery cycles.

I guess a replacement battery from Dell (as opposed to a generic unbranded one) or be pretty expensive, any idea roughly how much? The specs on this are great for the money

I bought one of these for my mother, from dell refurb, battery was well worn wouldent last 2 hours. luckly easy to sorce a 3rd party replacement and easy to change, upgrade ram/ssd while your in there. Has a spare dimm slot but cpu limits the ram speed in these laptops, so not worth buying faster stuff.
(EDIT) was a 5300 that i upgraded the touch screen version... (edited)

Any memory controller will limit the RAM speed to the lowest installed module because they have to run at the same speed. The soldered module is rated at 2400 MHz, so if you install a 3200 MHz module, it will downclock to 2400 MHz or in some cases 2666MHz. This happens whether the RAM is soldered or not and with any system.

Wouldnt the paint they spray the keyboard with be very temporary and soon wear off and look a right mess so you would need to replace the keyboard ?

The price looks ok but this seller has alot of bad press for a reason . (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
If they are professionally resprayed/recoated then it shouldn't wear off as ITZOO do the same and their coatings are quite tough, but you can tell as the coating is darker grey/black and rougher. I don't think they respray them with generic paint cans in-house.

Yes, the seller is not great imo but the price is acceptable for this system.
