About this deal

Drayton Wiser Smart TRV - cheapest deal I've seen.

Info added by

  • This radiator thermostat is only designed to work alongside an existing Wiser Smart Heating System with a Wiser Heat Hub. Replace your existing radiator TRV valves to give room-by-room heating control.
  • Simply screw off/on existing TRV radiator valves and replace with Wiser smart thermostats to expand your current system. Works with 90% of existing valves. An adaptor to fit the Danfoss RA valve is included in every box.
  • Add up to 32 smart radiator thermostats in up to 16 different rooms/zones. Begin with 1 radiator thermostat and add more over time. 1 Thermostat required per radiator for maximum comfort and energy saving.
  • Full heating control can be monitored and schedules updated via the Wiser App (IOS and Android).
  • Use voice commands to check the status and make changes to individual rooms or groups of rooms. Fully compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.
  • Open window detection turns off heating if a window is open. Twist top allows manual override of the schedule via the radiator thermostat.
  • Average connectivity range is 25-40 feet but will depend on location of Heat Hub and thickness of walls. For larger houses or houses with thick walls, we recommend the Wiser Smart Plug to help extend the range. Wiser is not suitable for gravity fed systems.
  • Smart radiator thermostat is powered by 2 x AA Batteries (Batteries Included). Expected to last around 12 months, dependent on battery type and the amount of interactions with each device.
  • Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU, Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC, RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU

This seems a reasonable price at the moment but in December these were £24.
The prices of these do go all over the place.

I read a lot about extenders, can these not just connect to my WiFi? Extenders won't work for in my house as we utilise the basement but it's impossible to get non-wireless signals down there.

they are not wifi, they connect to the WiFi hub which a proprietary RF protocol. The thermostats, radiator or standard then all connect to that. There are range extenders for this in the form of plugs too which frankly are needed and not the optional extra they are made out to be. They are quite good though and very effective

Don’t waste your money on this “smart” garbage

Focus on investing in the compatible intelligent control for your heat source instead

Once your system is balanced you’ll never need to use a TRV again and will save a ton of money on your bills

Remember TRVs were invented decades ago for high output non-modulating boilers… it’s a travesty they are still around today albeit in this smart format, when way more efficient controls are available (edited)

You don't get it do you .. For example , why heat your bedrooms all day when you are not in them ?
With this systems you can have the bedroom radiators off all day , and just on an hour before bedtime ( for example) . Saving all that energy heating unused bedrooms all day.

Balancing radiators still means you are wasting energy heating rooms that are not used for much of the day.

I have the complete system. It is very reliable and easy to manage from a mobile phone. The system has saved me so much money over the last 3 years!

One tip: consider purchasing the "Drayton Wiser Smart Plug & Smart Heating System Range Extender/s" for the system, if you experience connection issues. It all depends on your home layout, thickness of walls, number of floors, and other factors.

Also, it works really well with Google Home. (edited)

The only wifi extender that works is their own smart plug extender. The only wiser device on your wifi network will be the main hub.
The trvs also create their own "mesh" to extend the network. The smart plug extends it further.

    Cracking first deal Congratulations .

Newbie to this. Will this work along with a smart phone app or does it need anything else? Thanks (edited)

Yes, this item bought along with one of the Wiser kits for one's central heating and/or hot water system will work with the smartphone Wiser app. In fact, the app is compulsory as that's the only way to get the system set up.

Glad they sorted the app out on this. It was abysmal from Black Friday to the middle of Feb. For staying connected and current with the hub and or cloud.

    Can this work with hive?
    devilsadv0cate's avatar
No, this only works with the Wiser ecosystem.

Just wish the room thermostat had a reasonable offer. I could do with a couple to compliment the TRVs in a couple of bedrooms.

Yeah, there's not been any mega deals on them for ages unfortunately. I was lucky enough to pick up the Multi Zone kit (for combi's) for £85 on an Amazon Lightning deal way back in Autumn 2020. (edited)

Great system and their support is top-notch. And easy to swap with your old system in most cases, just undo the 2 screws underneath your old programmer and put this one in its place. Same connections and bracket. I emailed them before I bought it to be sure so didn't need the wiring instructions!! You don't need to drain the system to replace the thermostats, very simple
    andylol's avatar
In most cases. In my system the wiring was all different, ended up getting an electrician to sort it out as the back plate had to be changed around, didn't want to mess with that and get things wrong

But yes agree, I've got 11 smart TRVs and 14 radiators (some are just on old dumb TRVs or have no TRVs to remain open), and they work great.

Even if Internet goes down, the system is still accessible and usable within the house unlike some of the other competitors, this was a big one for me personally

I have this system and it’s great once I got it working finally with the booster sockets, as I have 3 floors with about 11 rads.
Im thinking of going with an Air source heat pump maybe within the next year, and wondered if these will benefit that still or not? I’ve heard an ASHP pretty much runs a lot more of the time but at a lower temp, to keep the overall property warm, so turning off individual rooms may not be great with the time taken to get back to temp. Anyone have experience with this?
    xfield's avatar
You never "turn off" rooms, but rather set them back. For example you might have a room at 21 and set back to 18, so they still have a use. Ashp are slow to heat, unlike gas boiler which is fast, so with ashp you never want to drop temps by much. You will more so want to think about radiator sizing, as the flow temp of ashp is lower, so need more surface area, this might even mean replumbing larger bore pipe through the house. Heatgeek on YouTube have loads of info on the subject.
  13. zebik's avatar
I don’t understand the purpose of this to be honest.
    ThrobsBlackHat's avatar
You only heat the rooms you're using at times you need them.
