The pro is it doesn't need plugged in and is cheap, the negative is you are stuck with another thing in a cupboard.

I do like making yoghurt at home, but lots of multi and slow cookers have a yoghurt/ferment setting that works really well. Also just ago get a pot of live yoghurt from a shop as a starter, it'll come out really well and you just reuse your own yoghurt after as the starter after that.

Am I the only one who thought yoghurt was made from milk not water ?

Thank OP and I too have a lit taking up space.
@warriorscot, please expand your comment a bit more or pls PM me as I like the tip you've given about doing your own starter.
Would I be doing the same method as this dry culture kit or are you only referring to making it in a slow cooker (didn't know about the slow cooker {i don't have a multi cooker} option) TIA

This used to be the only way.

Boil the milk and take it off the heat (just under a boil actually - about 80 degrees)
Take a decent mug full out (so it can cool quicker), I prefer to put it in a jug.
When the mug full has cooled to 47 degrees add in your live yoghurt and stir gently (Any Live yoghurt will do, but has to be live, not Greek etc. not sure you can use flavored, but never tried)
Wait for half an hour to an hour.
As long as the main body of the milk has cooled to under 47 degrees, add the mug full back to the rest, stir gently.
Then keep it "warm" for 8 to 12 hours. (longer = firmer, but more sour)
It will also firm up when you put it in the fridge.

(If you have yoghurt you made from a sachet of culture, you can use this as the live yoghurt "starter") (edited)
