I take it with these they still have the ability to detect non-genuine bottles and if they do they brick themselves etc?

Not worth buying non genuine ones imo, I bought Epson bottles for like 25 quid, I've printed about 500 colour pages and I've used about 5% of the ink so far.....

what model should i get if i needed auto duplex?
    Berwhale's avatar
It looks like the cheapest EcoTank model with automatic duplex is the ET-2850 which normally sell for £230 (I can't believe you have to spend that much to get duplex!)...

What's the catch then? Printer manufacturers in 2023 allowing 3rd party ink?

Does it not do a chemical and spectral analysis on it to check it's genuine Epson?
    professor78's avatar
Nope, you just pour it in. Had my ET-2850 around 2 years, 2 teenagers hammering it for schoolwork and its been faultless, ink seems endless!

    Brilliant printers!!!!

I've got an Epson printer. I use 3rd party ink cartridges all the time with no problem. I just get a message when I first install them to say it's not genuine. Didn't know that it was ever a problem? Is this a new thing?

I had one of these the lack of double sided printing really drove me mad.. no way I was going to manually feed every page in so I could print on both sides

The Epson Stylus Office BX625FWD I bought from Amazon in January 2012 for £92.58 has both double sided printing and scanning (so copying as well) and is still going strong. It's been running on 3rd party inks for most of that time, I think only the first set of replacement inks were made by Epson.

The cheapest EcoTank model with the same features seems to be closer to £500 :O

(you can get a non-EcoTank WorkForce Pro WF-4830DTWF for around £160).

Been using the et2810 for a few months and the ink does appear to last a long time and the printer speed and quality is acceptable, not laser sharp but does the job

I have a five year old Ecotank, and other than the sheet feeder being temperamental it's pretty good.

Anything to get away from the tyranny of chipped cartridges with a few measly mls of ink for gobsmacking prices.

Kodak tried this pricing model (printers not being sold at a loss, ink at reasonable prices) and it killed their printer division if memory serves.

Be mindful before you purchase one of these as its liquid based ink they can only be repaired at a service centres.

I paid for the Cover plus warranty on one of these

I live in Birmingham the 2nd largest city in the UK and Epson have ZERO repair centres.

Nearest one is in Worcester it's a 50 mile round trip and they do not do same day repair so that's 100 miles to get a printer repaired in the second largest city in the UK,

    EPSON YOU ARE A JOKE!
