Bought three of these yesterday.
All of the Fullers ales are included, but this one seemed a great price.

Bitter never tastes nice past 6% lager gets malty when it is high volume but ale just tastes odd.

I remember reading that any brewer can produce a high ABV beer with lots of flavour, the skill is in producing a good tasting low alcohol (3%ish) beer. Golden Pride is nice for the style and this is a good price, but is not the sort of beer I would usually look to drink. For those attending any of the major beer festivals eg GBBF where Fullers have their own stand, ask them whether they have any of their special beers available as they sometimes bring along (unadvertised) a cask of "Brewers Reserve" beer which involved cask-aged Golden Pride mixed with ESB etc. Some very very strong interesting beers. Served by the third thankfully!

Saw this post and drive down to Waitrose. Got 6 bottles. £16.80 displayed on the till then the discount kicked in. £11 Inc. a free coffee (Waitrose card).
The first sip of beer was quite bitter. I'm 4 sips in and its a lovely full flavoured beer. It definitely tastes like a stronger normal Pride.

Might get a few more tomorrow.

P.s. there was no sticker on the shelf that said 3 for £5.50. So cheers for the deal

I agree about it not being well advertised in store. It's almost as if they are hoping people won't notice!

I like this a lot, but I couldn't enjoy it in this heat. I'll stick a few in the back of the cupboard, it will age well.
Fullers beers are a solid choice imo.

It amazes me that supermarket prices are now at pub prices.

You can buy a pint of 8.5% Ale for £2.80 in a pub in the UK?

Sounds more like barley wine which was very popular back in the day.

Never tasted this one, but I have noticed a few brewers have been leaning towards producing stronger beverages.
Obviously the market is there for it, same as all the brewers jumping on the 'craft' brews.

Most of these market moves are aimed as always at the brewer getting more bang for their buck, but I've yet to find something to justify the new drinks/higher prices etc.

I respect everyone's got their own tastes, and most of us don't stick to the same old all the time - hot weather pushes me towards halfnhalf shandy, maybe cold budvar, cooler weather Fursty Ferret is nice, and Mann's Brown Ale is hard to beat for warming taste on a cold winters night.

Fullers stuff is generally ok, just not sure me old body would appreciate the extra alcohol.
