I'll just put it out there for anyone interested as this is cheapest 4070 you can get and a decent reduction of around 30£ from Msrp, regardless how I feel about 40 series.

Will stick with my 3060ti for a while longer. Max I'd pay would be £400

I have an rtx3060ti founders edition. The rtx4070 is 45% faster for £200 more:

The rtx3060ti was 40% faster than the rtx2060 super for the same price:

Later in the year, the 16GB 4070 super will launch, the slower 4070TI will get a massive price cut, and the very poor 4070 will be closer to 400, and still over-priced. Just don't expect good deals on the 4080- Nvidia needs that level of performance for the high-mid-end next year, so can't afford to depreciate it by value too much this year.

They can't make it 16GB without changing the bus width. A 256 bit RTX "4070" would have to be a totally different card, and would cannibalise the rest of NVIDIA's gimped Lovelace line-up (except the 4090).

kinda crazy how 1.5 years ago, some people spent £800 on a 3060ti and acted like it was a good deal; but now people won't even entertain the idea of spending less for a graphics card that's 40% more powerful lol.

Kinda crazy how people actually think the 4070 is a 70 series card and acting like it's a good deal; but now people somehow think that it's fine for a 70 series to have 12gb and 192bit @ nearly 600 pounds in 2023.....50025645-v67bP.jpg

Problem is NVIDIA are making way more money from AI / Computing than Graphics so they don’t care as much.
Add to that the fact that AMD are just as greedy as NVIDIA I don’t expect any significant price reductions until the next generation is due out.

Maybe new kid on the block Intel can shake things up with A770 and A750.

Very tempted, but it is by far the worst model of the card, running 10 degrees hotter than the founders edition and has noisy fans.

I want to save money and plan to keep it for years, but can't help but feel it's worth spending the extra pennies for something like the Asus Dual.

I do just want all the newcomers to google the MSRP of the 1080ti. Things were not always like this. To people thinking we don't deserve high vram and non gimped memory buses on a mid range card, the PS5 digital is an entire console with 16gb of VRAM, I think even the Series X has 12gb of vram, these are 450 quid consoles. This is just a GPU, there is no excuse, and they aren't trying to excuse, this is planned obsolescence.

Worth mentioning that Palit and Inno3D cards 4070s are the same price on Overclockers, but I think I'm going with the Gainward for my partner's PC build.

    Sure.

I bet some random internet guy will enable it with some dodgy drivers and everyone one will be saying that was software locked for purpose. Doesn't matter that any game would run like a dog and would be unplayable.

Being able to to enable something just for a sake of it and run it to its full capabilities it's two different things.

It's like having Ray tracing on 20 series cards. Totally pointless exercise that should never be there. (edited)

Jeez this is a good price but like other comments need about £150 off price with more Ram. The memory debacle is going to sink Nvidia GPU's, but bet you they now release the 4060 with 20GB memory with not enough bandwidth. (edited)

A crazy amount of people around the world are not paying Nvidia prices. To the point of Nvidia needing to act on price cuts. Now we know that can happen we need to "hold the line!"

Only looks like decent value because of how expensive the rest of the lineup is.

The only alternative at this price is last gen for AMD, pros and cons for both.

Power draw is a lot higher though. 4070 uses 200W max. Also the 4070 is a small form factor.

RTX 4070 12GB is RTX 4060 but with a better name for Nvidia. Higher number more £$ fixed.

Doesn't really matter what they call it, based on the current prices and performance this is where it sits..

What's the alternative? Last gen from AMD which draws 100W+ more, noisy in comparison, FSR2 which isn't as good at DLSS in most cases, no frame insertion and sub par ray tracing performance. By all means go AMD if you want.

With the 12 gigs of VRAM this is just about worth it if you really can't wait. If you can wait, wait both AMD and Intel are threatening to leap over Nvidia with better deals if not better tech.

    Intel? LOL

AMD are still playing catchup and NVIDIA are effectively sandbanging, because they know they can.

I bought a 1070 for £400 in 2016, this is a huge improvement over what I'm rocking and with the climate I don't think I can argue with the prices like other folk are. If you upgrade GPU per generation I just think you're a fool or you have money to burn and can't complain.

It’s not about the cost per se, but the cost to hardware ratio. This is in reality a 4060-4060Ti being sold as a 4070 with an MSRP of £589 which is absurd. Does that make sense?

I wouldn't go for this model, because the temps are higher

The Diablo 4 bundle, makes this price a little easier decision to take it over a Radeon 6800xt, especially if I need to use the hardware Video Encoder, but all the 3 fan models are more expensive than these dual fan ones, which run way hotter.
