Yes should be fine, just need to see one of the many articles about cloning a hard drive to an SSD drive, there are free cloning programs you can use.

Better still is to do a fresh install for optimum goodness and you start off with a clean install and no crud. Of course you then need to re-install your programs and copy over files/docs/ etc

However installing Win10 from scratch is a piece of cake and can take less than an hour (plus install of your own programs)

You can download the install ISO file from MS, choose to load it to a USB stick, install new SSD, boot with USB stick, follow instructions to install new Win10 and off you go.. really quite easy these days. (edited)

If upgrading a mechanical hard drive that already has Win10 should not require you to note the product licence key, MS already knows the motherboard details from that installation so if installing onto a fresh SSD from scratch, Windows already knows it's a licensed PC.

If installing an SSD drive and your existing mechanical hard drive has Win7 or 8 and you're doing a fresh install on the new SSD then do note down the product key from your Windows 7/8 machine as Win10 installation will need that (it will then upgrade the key to create a new legitimate Win10 licence)

If cloning, there should be no need to enter any product licence key.


However, I'd suggest making a note of your product license key regardless.. just in case.

Magicaljellybean reader can extract the details of your current Windows product key, a Win7 pc should have a sticker with it, Win8 is usually hard coded into the BIOS. (edited)

If its a laptop, you probably only have 1 Sata port for the disk so get a USB to SATA adapter (Ebay, amazon, China websites)
Example:

It should look like this one or similar (the 2nd USB port is to allow more power to be delivered - not all drives need it):

or you can opt for an enclosure

A desktop will simply need a SATA cable and a spare header on the motherboard (there are usually a lot of spare headers).

Plug the SD into the USB adapter/enclosure and use software like this (its free edition) to 'clone disk' or 'Migrate to SSD' (same thing). If given the option to 'Align Partitiions for SSD' tick it. You get the option to resize partitions or leave them alone.

(Be aware, after finishing the wizard you have to click the Apply button along the bar to start the operation)

After the clone is done. Take the old disk out and put the SSD into the laptop. If your SSD does not boot for any reason, either perform a Windows repair or boot Partition Wizard and select 'Rebuild MBR' and apply.

YouTube has plenty of Videos. Find your model number (usually one a sticker on bottom or along screen bezel) and put it into YouTube with 'upgrade HDD', 'Upgrade Hard Drive' or 'Upgrade to SSD' on end.

Example: If your model was Lenovo L430, put "Lenovo L430 upgrade hard drive" into youtube and you'll usually find a video with your model or something similar.

I bought 5 when they were this price many moons ago - all in constant use in different laptops/PCs. All have been rock solid to date. HOT!

utter bargain for a reasonable minimum size SSD. At this price tempted to buy just in case I need it for a future build but can't really justify it as I don't have an immediate need for it. Still brilliant deal...

Remember folks this is a new revision, it's a totally different internal design to the P Series 4.

Let's hope the P Series "v5" is as good as the older models like the P Series 4 and the V Series v1.
The older Integral branded ones have been rock solid.

Looking at specs (here), this could be a good matching of a DRAMless design Phison S11 with the latest Toshiba TLC 3D Nand (based on the reference design details of the Phison S11 Controller, the ref design either uses Intel/Micron MLC or Toshiba 48 Layer TLC), Here it is TLC, so it's likely Toshiba 48 Layer TLC 3D Nand.

(The older P Series 4 had a (more expensive to produce) DRAM cache though, which made it snappy intially until you tranferred large files, where speed dropped to about 80MB/s)

The specs for this drive:
Phison S11 Controller.
MTBF >2 Million Hours.
It's a DRAMless design, so it's performance will be dependent on the TLC 3D Nand (likely Toshiba). If it is Toshiba 3D Nand, this has only been seen in iPhones upto now.

On the plus side, it should give good battery results at least and is unlikely to dissipate much heat.

Verdict: Could be good based on those specs, and worth more than it's £25 price.. (edited)

You don't have to. Windows 10 links itself to your motherboard. Usually reinstalling just works and windows auto activates.

I wish I could think of a reason to buy one - perhaps I could glue it on the back of my iPad & hope for the best

I would just like to let people know.
People whom need to clone their Hard drive and OS from larger drives to the smaller 120 SSD which can be a huge problem for many.I personally would recommend AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 6.0 .
I 1st used eases partition master and it would not boot after around 4 hours or more of pissing around, it was becoming a pain in the ass, None of the searches on google provided better options in the cloning process as They all seemed cumbersome.
AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 6.0 performed the clone from a 160GB Laptop OS hard drive which was around 45GB capacity full to this SSD in a matter of around half an hour via ,both the laptop HD and the SSD drives where connected to my desktop via Sata.(I suspect would also work fine via USB)
The process was smooth and after I inserted the SSD into the laptop ..it booted up fine once windows performed a standard drive error fixing diagnostic.
Without doubt the easiest cloning of a large to small .... People whom go from small to large would never have such problems.
So to to clarify ..this is for peeps whom need to go from LARGE TO SMALL use AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 6.0
and use the in built wizard tab and select disk copy wizard.

Anyone who hasn’t taken the plunge yet, do it. You’ll never look back. But do continue to backup as these don’t fail like normal drives (meaning gradually and often noticeable), one day you’ll turn it on and it’ll be dead. There are more expensive ssd’s for a reason but that’s not to say these aren’t worth getting. I wouldn’t clone your original HDD to an SSD, fresh install is best. Windows 10 should automatically activate if you’ve had it installed already, download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and make a USB stick (8gb or larger) and reinstall from that. You can always swap back your hdd if you find you need something off of it as well.

Bought two of these for my kids 5 year old decent spec HP laptops they were moaning they were slow loading office etc. now they're both at university. Done fresh install on both and they are like new mechines! Better still another hour from the battery! Best upgrade ever! BUY THEM!

These are so light I have used gaffer tape. Although I guess if your putting it in a mac you will be wanting gaffer tape with a titanium weave! (edited)

I purchased this drive the other day (says shipped but haven't received it yet) and I installed one I purchased from elsewhere a week ago.

I was an SSD virgin but I'm now converted. Used it to replace a standard HDD in my laptop and my laptop is now super super fast. Windows 10 installed in less than 10 minutes, battery life has improved by at least double due to SSD low power consumption and because it doesn't generate much if any heat my laptop fan is silent for most of the time while using it. I can't believe a simple thing like using an SSD can significantly improve a laptop like this. Amazing. Love these drives.

From what I understand Windows 10 no longer requires to be bound to your motherboard or hardware, you can link your microsoft account to your license and use it on any device you want. When reinstalling Windows 10 as long as you set it up with your microsoft account it will be automatically activated. I have it installed on 4 devices (PC, Tablet, Laptop x2) all using the same copy and same account and all fully activated.
