Just moved to double edge razors.... Can anyone recommend a good brand of blades?

Been using an unbranded razor virtually identical to this one for many years. One of the best purchases you’ll ever make.

I've been using a merkur razor to shave my head for years now. it's saved me a fortune! Although if I get sloppy or rush I run the risk of cutting myself. Best advice I could give is use little to no pressure. Definitely worth giving a go for anyone thinking about it

Would love to try these but a bit scared to due to sensitive skin.

How easy is it to nick yourself?

Like others say, don’t press hard, let the razor do the work, and don’t go sideways, will save you money++ and the environment if you can get on with them.

Use a hogs hair shaving brush and good quality shaving stick / cream  (my favourite is the Arko  shaving stick, it’s cheap if you buy in bulk and gives a great lather.  One stick lasts a good 5-6 months for me !)  Here’s  a link:

I’ve tried using a traditional razor as it’s much more cost effective. I find you have to be much more careful & precise. No good if you’re half awake as you run the risk of cutting yourself. I’m also nervous doing areas that are not straight (eg chin or under your nose). Maybe I need to be ‘braver’ but using rip off disposable razors is certainly quicker. (edited)

Just don't press down at all, let the razor do the work. This razor is quite mild so you'll only cut yourself if you press down hard or pull the razor sideways

I have this. Among another 7 double edge razors from known brands (Muhle, Merkur, etc). This tends to give me the most uncomplicated shave; smooth, good weight balance, and can go full triple passes with no burn or nicks. Coupled with Nacet blades, this is smooth as butter. Only gripe is the edge overlap of the blade ends, but this is easily avoided after practice. It's my recommendation for a total beginner to DE shaving. It's extremely forgiving, and very well put together qualitatively for the price. (edited)

This is indeed great for beginners as it is a mild razor. Another option is the Merkur 23C, also known as model 180 or the Edwin Jagger DE89. A terrible set for a beginner would be the Muhle R89 with Feather blades - a very good combination for a smooth cheek but only with lots of practice.

Got one of these a month or so ago for just under £10 but also got a 100 pack of the Derby Double edge blades £5.99 which seem just as good as the ones that come with it.

I would just switch to a Philips beard trimmer.

Glad to give up the hassle and the nicks. (edited)

    What hassle?

trimmer's don't give me a decent shave, but if that's works for you, great,

Very good. Did cut myself the first time. But got used to it quick. You must use a decent saving cream. It was 9.50 two months ago.
