The fourth Matrix is the sci fi equivalent of Freddy got fingered.

The studio demanded a movie with or without the Wachowskis. Gave them millions of dollars and Lana Wachowski did whatever she wanted on the studio's dime. Laughing at whatever low quality nonsense could be gotten away with.

It is not within the realms of possibility the franchise was sunk on purpose by her to prevent it being a cash cow.
