Terrible car. I have a 22 Golf GTi and the number of issues it’s had is just purely infuriating. It’s been in the VW dealership getting “repaired” for 26 days so far.

MK7 and MK7.5 were the last of the best Golf’s. Wouldn’t touch this, awful car and only bought because people want the VW badge. And I’m a VW enthusiast saying that.

It upsets me that £23k for a basic Golf is a good deal
    deleted9453's avatar
Shocking isn't it. My Dad paid £21.5k for his brand new GTI in 2016 with the PCP and loyalty discounts that were about at the time.

    *Edit - Tell a lie - £22935:
    VW Golf GTI:
    5 door manual
    Tornado Red
    Rear View camera
    90% Tint

    £25185 OTR (12.5%), less £1250 finance, less £1000 loyalty
    Net £22935 (edited)

This or a Yaris - Tough choice
    deleted2879431's avatar
I don’t know why I’m saying this, but the Yaris is faster and better on fuel. (edited)

Golf interiors these days are shocking!! All cheap plastic!! I own a golf but it’s 3 years old and much nicer than the newer models.

Can’t wait for the Tesla model 2 to be released hopefully soon with a 25k price mark

Watch all the others reduce their prices
    deleted9453's avatar
That'll never happen in UK. £48500 for a Model 3 SR single motor.

No way will the model 2 be £25k. More like £35-40k, sneaking in under the "luxury car tax supplement".

Def second hand . I guess any amount over trade is a bonus for the seller! Well done
    deleted9453's avatar
Just bide your time then. I went EV just after they annouced the impending VED charges and watched the value drop over night.

Just keep saved lists in Autotrader and pump those reg numbers into the likes of WBAC, Motorway, Cazoo etc and monitor the trends.

I pretty much hit a plateau after about 8 weeks of watching them fall. Over a month on, they are still around the same price.

£5-15k second hand bracket is where the market is mental. I reckon you could sell anything in this bracket within a day or two.

Much prefer the MK7 / MK7.5, they really missed the mark with the MK8 in my option.

MK3, 6 and 8 Golfs are seriously ugly. MK2, 5 and 7 are the best of the bunch.

    Solid cars

VW are bang average 18th/29 for reliability and build quality, should be higher when paying a premium price

COLD - £400 cheaper at Drive the Deal49220925-xpHSC.jpg
  10. jazzyb88's avatar
Only a deal if you want a VW badge. Anyone else will know there are plenty of better cars out there.
    deleted9453's avatar
    Please do supply some examples.

All these Nationwide deals seem too be cheaper at drive the deal.
    deleted9453's avatar
    They are.
  12. Camuca1's avatar
PCP has made the price of the cars ridiculous. People only look at the monthly costs and has led dealers to up the price of cars I don't want to pay over 20k for a fairly basic golf! I never buy any car on finance
    deleted9453's avatar
Same. More and more dealers don't even advertise a cash price now, you have to hunt for it. Just a "Monthly Amount".

PCP bubble is bursting now anyway thankfully.
  13. HOTPOT's avatar
    Overpriced. Way overpriced.
    Chamander's avatar
Well not really. Granted this would have been a lot cheaper a few years ago, but in this current market it's a decent price.
  14. villageidiotdan's avatar
Gosh that design looks tired and old, just from the perspective of someone that knows nothing about cars
    brett1985's avatar
With you there. It is dull. It may well be the best current price but to describe it as a hot deal. Not sure.

Seems to be a lot of Nationwide Car Deals on here lately?
    Someone working for them?

    Design insperation from the 80's?

I’m glad to see some car deals coming through as they dried up the last few years.
  18. Grahamdue's avatar
Worth paying the extra £500 for the 150bhp version.
  19. ronniefront's avatar
Have one of these. Drive's lovely and the perfect all rounder.

    Although...

Infotainment and climate controls drive me mad!
Stop adding touch screen buttons to cars - even worst when it's to control the A/C!!!!
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
Completely agree. I can't imagine why anyone thinks it's safe or even a good idea to bury any kind of vehicle control within a touchscreen system. Even if it's right there on the screen you can't find it without taking your eyes off the road instead of feeling for it - worse if you have to bring up another menu or something

    Car looks butterz
  21. ashmac's avatar
Wow the front end looks so bland, don’t like the shape at all
  22. coalfield's avatar
Wow this is a pretty ugly looking golf no? Maybe just me
  23. Ilovedesign's avatar
These were like £2000 brand new in 2019
  24. DubDriver's avatar
Are you sure it is cheaper?
    ”EXTRA INFORMATION
The quoted prices on all models (except StyleGTiR and PHEV) include a £1,000 finance deposit contribution which is conditional upon you taking out PCP finance arranged by the dealer. If you do not wish to take out this finance, then you will need to add £1,000 to the prices that we quote.”

Passat is really better than this, get 2nd hand passat instead of this .
    deleted9453's avatar
We did this in 2018. Bought a brand new Passat GT cheaper than a Golf SE Nav.

£5k scrappage on offer helped things massively though on our old 06 Passat which was bought for £2k.
  26. afroylnt's avatar
Shame the 1.5 TSI is quite de-tuned normally puts out closer to 150bhp
  27. Spacehduk's avatar
I'd hold off for better deals.
  28. Smithers37's avatar
23.5k for what is an old car - not something I can say is a good deal but that’s just me.
    deleted9453's avatar
An old car? This is brand new? This shape (mk8) only came out in UK in Feb 2020.

Models normally have a 6 to 8 Yr life cycle.
  29. DJ8's avatar
I prefer to buy well specced used ones, each to their own.
    fredflintstone11's avatar
Same, actually looking at MK7.5 GTD more for the virtual cockpit and heated seats
  30. Tomster79's avatar
I’ve got a mark 7.5 1.6tdi. Covered almost 80k from new. I’ve got the model S and was impressed with the mark 8 when mine went into the dealership with an issue. Spec has come along way since 2018 standard. I drove the 1L petrol and drove really well
    deleted9453's avatar
    80k in a Golf S 1.6TDI.

On behalf of all VW fans on this forum, I'm sorry

Cold MK8 is horrible with their new UI laggy and nasty to use
  33. dizzyba's avatar
Most boring design in its class, looks like VW to save money, has closed Golf's design departement years ago.
  34. ashmac's avatar
Best golf shape in my opinion

    49256829_1.jpg

Mate has a new golf he’s has tons over the years and absolutely hates it , the touch screen is laggy and he hates the fact you have to go through menus to turn on a blower (edited)
