As a builder who have seen many houses and repaired many bodge jobs I would strongly advise against using something like this on a door frame in most of the houses, especially new builds.

If you're lucky you'll only end up on the floor holding piece of architrave in your mouth.

If you're unlucky caulk will crack around architrave, plasterboard might too, MDF door casing will be loose, door will not shut properly ever again. (edited)

Similar to the men's health one I bought the argos in 2020. It's been a life saver for back development over lock down

Just bought this and can confirm the build is worth the £10 asking price but have found my new build door frames won't take the weight, loaded it up a small amount and can hear cracking and creaking in the plaster boards above the door frame so took the safe option and left it off. Would work great on a older build house.

As someone who's used one extensively, and without damage, I think that the health/strength benefit from ease of access comes out on top here.

Good point mate, let's ignore the builder who has seen this several times, clearly your single anecdote is more reliable info

Surely this will damage the door frame over time

Bought this earlier and happy to say that’s it’s better quality than I’d anticipated. I’d say this one is even worth £20. You can get £2 TopCashback back on all purchases over £5 and 4.5% cashback on Argos fitness products. Effectively making this only £7.50 💪🏻

Have used these for years, they are very good. But, don't use them 'as is' on your nice door frames. Over time they will damage paintwork and dent the wood. For the bits were the bar meets the door frame/wall i've put padding over the contact points on the bar (old socks or foam padding). It does help.

Relax, just another point of view. Didn’t discount their advice. Rather have a strong back than a strong doorframe anyhow! (edited)

Yes, my doorframe broke and my cousin fell on his back many years ago. Luckily nothing happened to him. I quickly threw away product. Such product should be banned.

I know someone who broke their back using one of these types of pull up bars! (edited)

I used this over lockdown with 100KG body weight + weight no issues. Solid build.

Have a similar adidas one. Worst it did was rub the paint,so I used padding. The ones that sit in the door frame do damage in my experience.. This type with the rectangular bar that rests on top of the frame seems okay.

The top of the doorframe taking all the weight of your body?

The top is pushing down on both sides of the door frame.

Thanks, ordered just for hanging/ stretching in a morning, so hopefully door frames will be fine for this...

Used one of these for a while (not this brand but similar design). Damaged the door frame on the top and the sides, and messed up the paint above the door frame.

I own my own home, so no landlord to worry about and I fitted one of these with the screws. It's very solid but it will leave marks (never mind the 2 screws and nylon washers screwed into the door frame as well). Caulking is cracking due to me over-expanding the bar in the door aperture (Oops!) but it's a 50 year old house that moves around anyway so virtually every wall-ceiling corner has cracks.

I have a fitness tower as well but prefer the doorway fitted pull-up bar as it doesn't wobble and feels more solid.
