Key Features

Designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras, the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 is a sleek and compact standard-length prime. Its 50mm focal length is ideally suited for portraiture, landscapes, and all-purpose shooting and provides a modestly bright f/1.8 maximum aperture for shallow depth of field control. An extra-low dispersion element and an ultra-high refractive index element reduce chromatic aberration and colour fringing for improved clarity and colour accuracy, and the lens provides excellent sharpness as well. A linear autofocus motor suppresses focus breathing and delivers smooth, precise, and near silent focusing performance. Made for tough environmental conditions, the lens also features a dust-, moisture-, and freeze-resistant design.

- Prime standard-length lens designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used on APS-C models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.

- Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers control over depth of field and suits working in low-light conditions.

- Three aspherical lenses including an extra-low dispersion element and an ultra-high refractive index element reduce chromatic aberration and colour fringing for improved clarity and colour accuracy.

- Linear autofocus motor suppresses focus breathing and delivers smooth, precise, and near silent focusing performance.

- Benefitting professional video applications, linear focus ring control for mechanical-based follow focus systems moves the focus at a constant speed in accordance with the rotating angle of the focus ring.

- High resolution sharpness and performance to support 4K video.

- Smooth exposure changes by micro-step aperture control for video applications.

- Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

- Dust-, moisture-, and freeze-resistant design for increased protection from the elements.

This 50mm is possibly my next lens buy.

The Leica Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH is basically an optical copy of it with metal construction and costs £1780

I watched the Red Dot Podcast on YouTube where they compared both and the difference was difficult to see. Place thus Lumix 50 on an S5/S5ii, select L.monochrone filter in camera and you get fantastic monochrome images SOOC with no PP required.

I just got Lumix S5ii body with 24-105 f4 which is a superb lens and already I love the 0.5x macro. I'm collecting the Lumix 70-300 f4.5-f5.6 on Monday and it too has 0.5x macro at 300mm.

It seems to me every Lumix S lens is excellent, the S 20-60 f3.5-f5.6mm ASPH is another stonking bargain right now virtually unused/mint for under £200. Imagine a lens buyable at this price including 2 ASPH, 3 ED, and 1 UHR lenses in the construction and weather sealed

I want to press the button here but I've already new lenses to put through their paces.
