A cracking small screen OLED that offers something for everyone...

whathifi.com/reviews/philips-48oled807

What Hi-Fi? Awards 2022 winner. A great performer at a great price Tested at £1249

techradar.com/reviews/philips-oled807

The Philips OLED807 remains a gloriously eye-catching reminder that there’s plenty of life left in traditional OLED technology yet, despite QD-OLED trying to steal its thunder. It's especially great for AV fans who don’t have limitlessly deep pockets but want stunningly cinematic images, with bonus next-gen gaming support.

Enhanced Ambilight 4-sided
With increased colour accuracy and detail, Philips’ unique Ambilight system is more impressive than ever. With 4-sided Ambilight, the system is at its very best. Using intelligent LEDs all around the TV, colour from the picture is cast into the room – in real time. Colour, vibrancy and excitement move beyond the screen and into your living room to bring you a viewing experience beyond the ordinary, with the extraordinary Philips 48OLED807.

OLED for brilliant image quality
Delivering the ultimate picture, this Philips 48 inch TV uses OLED technology. Unlike conventional LED TVs, OLED doesn't need a backlight. Each pixel makes its own colour and light. When they are turned off, they are completely black. With deeper blacks you get enhanced colours and astonishing contrast that allows you to enjoy the purest, most lifelike image.

Most powerful Philips picture processing yet, with 6th Gen P5 AI processor
Featuring advanced Ambient Intelligence, the latest P5 processor monitors light levels in the room and adjusts the TV’s brightness, gamma and colour, in real time, to optimise the image. The processor also offers Eye Care, Dark Detail Optimisation and Colour Temperature Optimisation modes, for a bespoke viewing experience.

See the picture exactly as originally intended, with Filmmaker Mode
The 6th Gen P5 Processor also supports Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

IMAX Enhanced
Nothing beats the big screen thrill of IMAX and now, thanks to IMAX enhanced, you can enjoy the power of IMAX on your TV, too. Used with IMAX certified 4K HDR content, IMAX Enhanced uses their proprietary digital remastering technology (DMR) to deliver ultra-vivid images.

Multi-format HDR support, including Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for a stunning picture from all sources
As well as IMAX Enhanced, the Philips 48OLED807 also offers Dolby Vison and multi-format HDR – including HDR10+. HDR10+ offers scene-by-scene HDR mastering for the truest, most accurate HDR picture technology. Each scene is optimised, meaning the maximum amount of detail is shown – even in the brightest or darkest moments.

Gaming made even better
The OLED807 models take Philips’ expertise with gaming to an even higher level. Game Bar lets you adjust the picture settings whilst gaming is in progress. Picture presets optimise the settings for different game genres – such as Shooter and Role Play. With support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and 4K@120Hz refresh rate you get a great gaming experience with exceptionally low input lag. Unique to Philips, Ambilight’s gaming mode brings another dimension of immersion.

Dolby Atmos for enhanced sound
With a Dolby Atmos processor built-in, the Philips 48OLED807 decodes Atmos sound tracks - giving you the potential for an even more immersive sound. Featuring a built-in 2.1 speaker set-up with subwoofer and a powerful amp, it provides punchy, well-rounded sound.

Compatible with DTS Play-Fi Home Theatre
The Philips 48OLED807 is one of the first TVs to be compatible with the innovative DTS Play-Fi Home Theatre system. When using the DTS Play-Fi app, this lets you integrate the TV into a home cinema speaker system, using the TV as the centre channel. Wireless surround sound doesn’t get much easier or more flexible than this.

Android TV 11 for smart TV
In a complicated world of catch-up TV, Android TV makes sense of it all. Using a clear, intuitive interface, the latest Android TV 11 lets you effortlessly switch between Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Disney+ and many other services. Android lets you pick up where you left off in the latest series or check out new movie releases – all without getting lost within complicated menus.

Voice control with built-in Google Assistant and works with Alexa
Working via the built-in Android system, Google Assistant helps you find content, apps and even controls compatible smart home devices, such as the Philips Hue lighting system. All this is available by simple voice command. Alternatively, connect your Amazon Echo or similar Alexa device and use voice commands via Alexa (Works with Amazon Alexa).

Beautiful design details – right down to the leather-backed remote
Featuring a razor-thin metal bezel, the 48OLED807 is a minimalist masterpiece. The quality of design extends to the remote control, which features a tactile, Muirhead leather-backed finish and backlit keys. The stylish stand swivels for the perfect viewing angle.

Get a more immersive experience from your viewing, with the Philips 48OLED807.

Please note, this Smart TV features third party Apps. These Apps may be modified or withdrawn at any time. There may also be a delay in launching some of the featured Apps. Catch-up TV Apps may vary by region. The function and availability of apps is not covered by the manufacturer’s or Richer Sounds’ guarantee.

Maybe a dumb question but is this as good/better than a Samsung or LG equivalent?
    danston's avatar
Not really going to go wrong with those options around this price point.

Philips and LG are platform agnostic so will do HDR10/10+/Dolby Vision... There's no Samsung TV available that does Dolby Vision.

LG and Samsung have all four HDMI ports at 4k@120hz, the Philips iirc, only has two (one of which will be eARC)

Samsung's QLED technology means it can go brighter than the traditional OLEDs found on Philips and LG with the flip side being that OLED panels typically have better light control and less blooming (think of starry sky, OLEDs will give you those pin pricks of starlight next to black space, whereas QLED may present a "halo" around the light source of the star impinging on the black space).

The LG C2 (closest comparator to this Philips) was widely regarded as the best OLED for most. Samsung TVs always seem to sell well (though some have complained of build quality issues) and I bought the Philips

I got the 55OLED856 in their Boxing Day sale last year for £799 and I freaking love it - was such a great deal. Been a few software bugs but Philips have pumped out a few software updates which have caught most. Beautiful panel.

I had my ambilight alert set up. Thanks to you, the tv I needed 65pus8897 is at a super low price of 749 on richer sounds with 6 year warranty. Bought it, thanks.

Yes I read it is because TCL own the right to Philips brand TVs and Signify for the Hue lamps.

Got the 48OLED806 and that's fantastic.
    Ambilight truly is amazing.

It is. An absolute game changer. And thanks to Philips TV division's new owners available much further down the food chain than previously.

I've already purchased the tv, but I'm thinking. The 6 year guarantee is a bit rubbish isnt it? Wouldnt you rather have a 6 year warranty? T&Cs state that they'll give you this money back if you have a fault.

During year One – full value
During year 2 – Original retail less 20%
During year 3 – Original retail less 30%
During year 4 – Original retail less 40%
During year 5 – Original retail less 50%
During year 6 - Original retail less 60%

They do say that they'll try to fix it, but this is like any insurance scheme, they'll declare your tv as a write off and give you 280 quid back on your 700 quid tv. Maybe this is great? dont know, but i rather have a guarantee that they'll fix it for free for 6 years or replace it entirely.

That sucks. Just got a 4 year old ambilight full refund from Costco (edited)

Some of the reviews of the 48", including the AVForums one linked to in the post, say this does not have the OLED.EX panel. That's only on the 55" and above.

Apologies, I've taken that out of the title and also deleted the video.

You have me eyeing this up for a 55 Inch/65 Inch If the Discount is right! Looks stunning and the Stand suits the same stand that I got on My PHILIPS Gaming 279M1RV which I use for My PS5 & PC at the moment. I love Ambiglow on it! 4K 120Hz on it looks super silky smooth. Glad I got it on Sale back when it was £489.

I have the 55 and it’s an amazing TV.

If you wanted a bit more, the 907 is an even better TV - heat sink, dual processor (807 has one) and a built-in speaker.
